Chilly Days Scrapbook Layout with Karla Yungwirth

Hello friends! Karla back today with a Chilly Days layout using two different sizes of snowflake chipboard pieces, a beautiful Snow Flourish Chipboard Frame and a Chicken Wire Stencil from the Southern Ridge Trading Company Shop. It has been very chilly lately here in Calgary, Alberta, and a great time to stay inside and do some cozy crafting! The February sketch from the Creative Scrapbooker Sketchy Gallery was the perfect starting point for this layout.

I picked out some wintery papers and embellishments from the Simple Stories Freezin’ Season collection. I love the soft colours and fun sentiments in this collection!

I used some BoBunny stitching stamps to add a faux zigzag stitch around my layout. Then I added some ink around the edges of my layers to add even more interest. The large snowflakes from the Snowflake 714 pack just pop with some Distress Oxide Ink and Ranger Bridal Tinsel embossing powder. I love the packs of Snowflakes from the SRTC Shop!

I chose two of the smaller snowflakes from the Snowflakes 712 pack and embossed them with Ranger Snowflake Tinsel embossing powder – a fun white powder with silver flecks. I recently picked up some Ranger Liquid Pearls and decided to try them as embellishments along with some fun sequins. I love how they dry!

I added just a bit of Distress Oxide Ink through the SRTC Chicken Wire Stencil in a couple of places on the layout. Here you can see it just peeking out on the white cardstock above the frame. I love that you can get this stencil in 3 different sizes! Just like the large snowflakes, I inked the Snow Flourish Oval Frame with Distress Oxide Inks and embossed it with Ranger Bridal Tinsel embossing powder, which is a translucent powder that allows the ink colours to show through – so pretty!

Joy Christmas Wall Hanging with Katelyn Grosart

Hey Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. It's hard to believe that Christmas is only 20 days away and it's time for me to start decorating my house for Christmas. For today's post, I've created this Joy Christmas Wall Hanging perfect to add to my Christmas decor, which features a variety of our popular wood and chipboard Christmas pieces. You'll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my wall hanging at home. 

To start, you'll need the Ornate Rectangle Frame. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to the frame. Sprinkle Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder over the entire surface of the frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Next, you'll need four of the Snowflakes 714. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to all four snowflakes. Sprinkle Glacier White Embossing Powder over the entire surface of all four snowflakes. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Choose a Christmas sentiment from any of our Christmas sayings. Apply two coats of Fired Brick Distress Spray Stain over the word. Once dry, apply a coat of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain overtop of the word.  

Next, you'll need the Pine Branch. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Forest Moss Distress Ink over the entire surface of the pine branch. 

The next chipboard piece you need is the Primitive Star. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the entire surface of the star.

From the Ribbon Bows, you'll need to choose one of them. Apply two coats of Candied Apple Distress Stain to the bow. Ink the edges of the bow using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

The last chipboard element you'll need is one of the extra pages from the Plain Chipboard Album. Ink the edges of the album using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

The next two steps are using Pion's Let's Be Jolly paper. From the Christmas Memories paper, cut the child image out to 2" x 3 3/8". Distress the edges. Ink the edges of the image using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Choose three of the patterned papers from the Let's Be Jolly Paper. Cut patterned paper one down to 3 7/8" x 7 3/4". Cut patterned paper two down to 3 5/8" x 7 1/2". Cut patterned paper three down to 3 3/8" x 7 1/4". Distress the edges of all of the papers. Ink the edges of all of the papers using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the 3 3/8" patterned paper to the 3 5/8" patterned paper. Adhere the 3 5/8" patterned paper to the 3 7/8" patterned paper. Adhere the 3 7/8" patterned paper to the chipboard album page.

Adhere the star to the middle of the 3 3/8" patterned paper. Adhere the frame to the image. Adhere one of the snowflakes to the backside of the top left corner of the frame. Adhere a second snowflake to the backside of the bottom right corner of the frame. Foam square the frame to the middle of the star.

Adhere the third snowflake to the top left corner of the frame. Make sure that you can see a bit of the bottom snowflake. Adhere the fourth snowflake to the bottom right corner of the frame. Make sure that you can see a bit of the bottom snowflake. Foam square the ribbon to the top of the frame.

Adhere the pine branch on the bottom right side of the frame. Adhere the sentiment to the bottom of the frame.

In the bottom right hand corner of the frame, adhere three white roses, three red roses, one brown roses and three greenery pieces.

In the bottom left hand corner of the frame, adhere one red rose and two white roses.

In the top left hand corner of the frame, adhere five white roses, three red roses, one brown rose and three greenery pieces.

To finish off your wall hanging, punch two holes at the top. Thread brown ribbon through the holes to create hanging part of the wall hanging.

I'm Sorry - Winter Canvas with Erin Quiding-Sampson

I saw this saying and thought it was really funny!! I knew I must make something using it. Sooo today's project is for those of us that are done with winter and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring.

To create the background, I pre-moistened a 5 by 7 canvas with a bit of water and painted acrylic paints on the diagonal.

I used Gesso on the large snowflake frame and the small sign, over that I added distress glitter and then melted UT embossing powder over top.   

I stamped the girl image on 110 lb card stock and cut her out. I used water colours and a water brush to colour her in.

Stickers were used on the same 110 lb cardstock then cut I out the words to add to the sign.

I used a small amount of distress glitter on all the small snowflakes then I melted silver embossing powder to give it that “icy look”

I layered everything onto the canvas using gel medium to adhere it.

I hope you enjoyed my canvas as much as I enjoyed making it!

Still chuckling every time I see it.

Believe Wall Hanging with Katelyn Grosart

Hey Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here and I'm back on the blog today to share with you some Christmas inspiration. To start, I want to wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Today I get to share with you my Believe Wall Hanging that will be sure to inspire you to recreate it for your own home. Grab a cup of your favourite Christmas beverage and learn how to recreate my wall hanging at home.

To start, take the Believe Flourish Sign out of the package. You'll need the back piece first. Apply one coat of White Gesso to the entire sign. Once the gesso has dried, apply two coats of Titanium White Acrylic paint over the entire sign. With the white paint dry, run Walnut Stain Distress Stain over the entire sign. Before the stain dries, wipe off a bit of the stain to allow the white paint to show through. Once the stain has thoroughly dried, apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the script word stamp and randomly stamp over the back piece. To finish off the back piece of the sign, lightly apply Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the entire sign. Set the back piece aside.

Now you'll need the believe portion of the sign. To start, apply one coat of White Gesso to the entire sign. Once the gesso has dried, apply two coats of Titanium White Acrylic paint over the entire sign. With the white paint dry, run Gathered Twigs Distress Stain over the parts on the sign that don't have the snowflakes. Before the stain dries, wipe off a bit of the stain to allow the white paint to show through. Once the stain has thoroughly dried, apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the script word stamp and randomly stamp over the believe piece. Lightly apply Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the believe sign that is already brown. 

For the "Believe" word, apply Emboss It Ink to the entire Believe word. Sprinkle Charred Gold Embossing Powder over the entire word. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. For the snowflakes, apply Emboss It Ink to each snowflake. Sprinkle Fractured Iced Embossing Powder over each snowflake. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. 

To add some highlights to the believe sign, add some White Gold wax over the entire sign with your finger.

Adhere the Believe part of the sign to the back of the sign with glue.

From the Snowflakes 714 package, you'll need all of the snowflakes. For the large snowflakes, apply two coats of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain. Set those snowflakes aside to dry.

Take out five Snowflakes from the Snowflakes 712 package. Apply two coats of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain to each snowflake. From the same package, take out five snowflakes and apply Emboss It Ink to each snowflake. Sprinkle Fracture Ice Embossing Powder over each snowflake. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. 

Adhere the three of the small snowflakes around the believe word. You'll want to layer the large and small snowflakes and then adhere them onto the larger snowflakes. 

In the bottom right hand corner of the sign by the snowflake adhere four aqua roses, two dark brown roses, two light brown roses and three cream roses.

In the top left hand corner of the sign by the "B" in believe adhere two aqua roses, three dark brown roses, one light brown roses and three cream roses.

To finish off the top of the wall hanging, punch two holes and tie ribbon through.

Merry Christmas Tree Ornament with Katelyn Grosart

Hey Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. I've been busy playing with the some of our Christmas chipboard and have created for you a Christmas Tree Ornament, that's perfect to add to your Christmas Tree. You'll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my Merry Tree Ornament.

To start, apply Aged Brass Art Alchemy Metallique Wax to the rim and inside of the canning jar lid. This will dull down the silver from the canning jar lid.

Pull out the large ornament from the 3D Filagree Star Ornament package. Trim off the loop at the top of the ornament. Apply two coats of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain to the ornament. Set aside to dry.

From the Sm. Primitive Stars, pull out one of the stars from the package. Apply two coats of Tarnished Brass Distress Stain to the star. Set the star aside to dry.

Take the Merry out of the Wood Words of Christmas - Noel package. Apply two coats of Gathered Twigs Distress Stain to the word. Set aside to dry.

From the Snowflakes 714 package, take out one of the large snowflakes. Using a Blending Tool with foam, blend Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the entire surface of the snowflake. Set aside.

Take one of the Corrugated Stars out of the package. Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the star. Sprinkle Charred Gold Embossing Powder over the entire star. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Let cool for a few seconds before picking up the star.

From the Small Merry Deer Mix package, take one deer out. Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the deer. Sprinkle Charred Gold Embossing Powder over the entire deer. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Let cool for a few seconds before picking up the star.

Take the Rod Iron Circle Frame out of the package. Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the frame. Sprinkle Aztek Gold Embossing Powder over the entire frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Let cool for a few seconds before applying another coat of Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the frame. With the frame now cooled, add a coat of Emboss It Ink to the entire frame. Sprinkle Fractured Ice Embossing Powder over the entire frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Let cool for a few seconds before picking the frame up.

Die cut a 2 3/4" Stitched Circle out of patterned paper. Die cut two 3 1/4" Stitched Circles out of patterned paper. Distress the edges of the circles. Ink the edges of the circles using a Blending tool and foam.

Adhere the 2 3/4" circle to one of the 3 1/4" circles. Adhere the 3 1/4" circle to the inside of the canning jar.

Adhere the Rod Iron Circle Frame to the middle of the 2 3/4" patterned paper circle.

Adhere the 3D Filagree Star Ornament over top of the Rod Iron Circle Frame.

Adhere the snowflake to the middle of the 3D Filagree Star Ornament. 

Foam square the corrugated star to the middle of the snowflake. Adhere the sm. primitive star slightly overtop of the corrugated star.

Adhere the deer to the middle of the star. Adhere the Merry word at the bottom of the deer. 

In the top left hand corner, adhere two light blue roses, three brown roses and three cream roses. In the bottom right hand corner adhere two light blue roses, two brown roses and one cream rose. Adhere a piece of twine at the top of the lid so that you can hang it on your tree. To finish the twine hanger, add a twine bow were the two ends meet. Adhere the other 3 1/4" circle to the back side of the canning jar lid.
