Joy Christmas Wall Hanging with Katelyn Grosart

Hey Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. It's hard to believe that Christmas is only 20 days away and it's time for me to start decorating my house for Christmas. For today's post, I've created this Joy Christmas Wall Hanging perfect to add to my Christmas decor, which features a variety of our popular wood and chipboard Christmas pieces. You'll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my wall hanging at home. 

To start, you'll need the Ornate Rectangle Frame. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to the frame. Sprinkle Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder over the entire surface of the frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Next, you'll need four of the Snowflakes 714. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to all four snowflakes. Sprinkle Glacier White Embossing Powder over the entire surface of all four snowflakes. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Choose a Christmas sentiment from any of our Christmas sayings. Apply two coats of Fired Brick Distress Spray Stain over the word. Once dry, apply a coat of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain overtop of the word.  

Next, you'll need the Pine Branch. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Forest Moss Distress Ink over the entire surface of the pine branch. 

The next chipboard piece you need is the Primitive Star. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Ground Espresso Distress Ink over the entire surface of the star.

From the Ribbon Bows, you'll need to choose one of them. Apply two coats of Candied Apple Distress Stain to the bow. Ink the edges of the bow using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

The last chipboard element you'll need is one of the extra pages from the Plain Chipboard Album. Ink the edges of the album using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

The next two steps are using Pion's Let's Be Jolly paper. From the Christmas Memories paper, cut the child image out to 2" x 3 3/8". Distress the edges. Ink the edges of the image using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Choose three of the patterned papers from the Let's Be Jolly Paper. Cut patterned paper one down to 3 7/8" x 7 3/4". Cut patterned paper two down to 3 5/8" x 7 1/2". Cut patterned paper three down to 3 3/8" x 7 1/4". Distress the edges of all of the papers. Ink the edges of all of the papers using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the 3 3/8" patterned paper to the 3 5/8" patterned paper. Adhere the 3 5/8" patterned paper to the 3 7/8" patterned paper. Adhere the 3 7/8" patterned paper to the chipboard album page.

Adhere the star to the middle of the 3 3/8" patterned paper. Adhere the frame to the image. Adhere one of the snowflakes to the backside of the top left corner of the frame. Adhere a second snowflake to the backside of the bottom right corner of the frame. Foam square the frame to the middle of the star.

Adhere the third snowflake to the top left corner of the frame. Make sure that you can see a bit of the bottom snowflake. Adhere the fourth snowflake to the bottom right corner of the frame. Make sure that you can see a bit of the bottom snowflake. Foam square the ribbon to the top of the frame.

Adhere the pine branch on the bottom right side of the frame. Adhere the sentiment to the bottom of the frame.

In the bottom right hand corner of the frame, adhere three white roses, three red roses, one brown roses and three greenery pieces.

In the bottom left hand corner of the frame, adhere one red rose and two white roses.

In the top left hand corner of the frame, adhere five white roses, three red roses, one brown rose and three greenery pieces.

To finish off your wall hanging, punch two holes at the top. Thread brown ribbon through the holes to create hanging part of the wall hanging.

Warm Holiday Greetings Card with Jessica Kaiser

Hello chipboard fans!

It’s Jess here today to share a new card with you!  I was feeling the “Christmas In July” theme – so that’s what I went with!  Here is what I created:

Let me share how I made it!  These are the Southern Ridge products I used on this card:

Pine Branches - (not current but you could use either Bare Branches or Pine Branch)

Ok!  Let's get crafting! :)

I covered my dual branch in green Glitter Accents using a palette knife and heat embossed the other branch with a dark green embossing powder, Magic Speckle Embossing Powder and Stampendous Embossing Ink.  I love that Magic Speckle adds a Pearlescent look to the piece!

My sweet little deer was embossed with Stampendous Embossing Ink, White Detail Embossing Powder and Magic Speckle Embossing Powder. I like to add multiple layers to my chipboard pieces to ensure there is full coverage of the piece! I also coloured a tiny bit on her horns using a Gold Glitter Marker.

I used a really cool background paper that looks like a book cover! To make "snow" I used the Nuvo Glimmer Paste and just smeared it on with a palette knife.

I also used the "snow" on my sentiment!

I hope you enjoy this sweet little Christmas Card!  I had a lot of fun making it - playing with "snow" in +30 weather seems much more fun than -30! LOL

Time for Coffee Gift Card with Emma Ivemey

Hello crafty friends!  I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that coffee is definitely the essential liquid to get us through our busy days.  I’m British, so tea still holds a place in my heart, but most days it’s coffee that is more likely to be in my cup.  (I find wine and crafting do not really go well together.. unless you like wonky embellishments.. 😉).

Today I’d like to share with you a cute “just because” card I made that is perfect for the coffee-loving friend in your life.  

First off, I embossed a piece of light coloured cardstock with this Sizzix timepieces folder.  I lightly added Antique Linen distress ink to the raised parts.  (The ink dries lighter than shown in the photo).  I adhered this to the front of my kraft card base.  I’m using a pre-made side-stepper card base from Crafter’s Companion, but there are many tutorials online for how to make one of your own.

Next, the fun part!  It’s all fun of course, but I do enjoy heat embossing.  I chose one of this awesome set from Southern Ridge -  I Love Coffee

I used some white embossing powder to create a ceramic mug feel, and highlighted the heart with some red stickles.

For the sentiment, I used the Coffee Plans stamp set from SRM Stickers, which I stamped and again embossed with white.  This set also has super-cute coffee bean stamps, which I’ve used with Delicata Bronze ink along the side of the card.

The side-stepper card has the perfect spot to add a gift card, or in this case, a sachet of coffee, as an added bonus.  I’ve adhered this with a glue dot, and again used the Coffee Plans stamp set to add the #caffeineplease in white underneath.

So I think this card is great, but I decided it needed one last embellishment from Southern Ridge:

Here, I’ve used the Pine Branch to perfectly set off my card.  I coloured the branch with Spectrum Noir Illustrator pen in Oak Tree, and then covered in Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen clear overlay for a little bling.

I love this card, and it was made easy by using Southern Ridge’s amazing products.  There’s definitely something for every occasion.  What gift card will you make today?!

Snow Day Mixed Media Canvas with Deb Riddell

Hello and thank you for stopping by today, Deb Riddell here to share a mixed media canvas with you that I created with Southern Ridge Trading Company’s brand new Winter Kids and Pine Branch chipboard.

I also added one of Southern Ridge’s Snowflake chipboard embellishments, it’s one of my favourites!  I’ve a few step out photos on how I created my Snow Day mixed media canvas, read on for the how to.

I started out with a piece of chipboard cut to 6 ½” x 7” (pssst, did you know that Karen sells 12x12 sheets of chipboard that you can cut on your own?  Perfect for cutting custom sized backgrounds or die cuts for your projects!).  I gave the chipboard a coat of white gesso and then sealed it with Distress Matte Collage medium.

Several shades of blue Distress Stains were swiped across the background in a random fashion.  I used a water soluble medium because I wanted the blue colour to slightly seep up through the layers of texture paste that I was going to be adding on top.

Ranger Opaque Crackle Texture Paste was added next with a spatula across the top and bottom of the background and some Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter was sprinkled on here and there while the paste was still wet.

While the texture paste dried and crackled, the Pine Branch chipboard piece was painted with several shades of green DecoArt Americana acrylic paint, pouncing the various colours on wet on wet until I was happy with it.  The Pine Branch was then given a coat of satin varnish and set aside to dry.

Two of the adorable sledding Winter Kids were given a coat of Lamp Black Americana acrylic paint and a coat of gloss varnish.

And the Snowflake was painted with white acrylic paint and then embossed with Emerald Creek Craft Supplies Iridescent Shimmer embossing powder for a little winter sparkle.

White sanded texture paste (this is Martha Stewart White Texture Effect) was then added to the middle of the background and a spatula was used to shape it into ‘hills’.  While the paste was wet, a variety of glitters and embossing powders were sprinkled on top for more winter sparkle.  The sanded texture paste was also added to the Pine Branch chipboard piece in ‘globs’ to simulate drifts of snow.

The texture paste was allowed to dry thoroughly and the whole canvas then sealed with gloss varnish.  Once the varnish had dried, the canvas was given a wash of Stormy Sky Distress Stain.  The blue stain was lifted off of the varnished surface with a paper towel right after it had been applied so as to only leave it in the crevasses and crackles.

More drying followed (there’s a lot of drying time on this one!) and the Snow Day sentiment was die cut from navy cardstock that had been adhered to some Rebekah Meier Designs Mixed Media Foam Sheets.  The letters were die cut with Tim Holtz’s Broadway Alphabet die and adhered along the bottom of the background once everything had dried.

All the other elements were then adhered to the background, the Pine Branch was added along the top edge;

The Snowflake nestled on the left underneath the Pine Branch;

And the Winter Kids added to the snowy hills. The edges of the finished piece were then shaded with Faded Jeans Distress ink.

I hope that you have enjoyed seeing how my Snow Day mixed media canvas came together, brings back childhood memories for me of those special days when school was closed because of a blizzard, what fun we all had!
