Winter Album with Nancy Nickel

Hello, everyone!

It's Nancy here today with a fun Winter themed Project. 

 We've been enjoying beautiful frosty days!
The temperatures have been very mild,
with blue skies and incredible hoar frost!

That was the inspiration for my project today.
I've used some fabulous chipboard pieces
to decorate the front cover of an 8 x 8 album.

I began by pouncing some Picket Fence paint around the edges of the album.

Just enough to give it a frosty appearance.

Then I added the paper that looks like falling snow. 

I fussy cut some swirls out of a coordinating paper, 

and added them to the bottom of the page.

I thought they made fabulous snow drifts!

I inked two of the fun silhouette pieces from the Winter Kids set.

I think I have always done my silhouettes in black

but this time I did dark blue to work with the papers.

Then I adhered them in place on the swirls/snow drifts.

For the title on my page I used the Winter from the Winter Words piece.
I inked just the word part, and then adhered it in place on the album cover.
Once it was in place, 
I used white Crystal Drops to colour the little snowflake,
as well as the snowy part.

In the photo below, you can see the great glossy finish on the snowy part.

Finally, I added three snowflakes, from the Snowflake set. 

I actually adhered them in place first,

and then covered them with the white Crystal Drops.

This was so much fun to make!

I can't wait to start filling it up!

Snow Day Mixed Media Canvas with Deb Riddell

Hello and thank you for stopping by today, Deb Riddell here to share a mixed media canvas with you that I created with Southern Ridge Trading Company’s brand new Winter Kids and Pine Branch chipboard.

I also added one of Southern Ridge’s Snowflake chipboard embellishments, it’s one of my favourites!  I’ve a few step out photos on how I created my Snow Day mixed media canvas, read on for the how to.

I started out with a piece of chipboard cut to 6 ½” x 7” (pssst, did you know that Karen sells 12x12 sheets of chipboard that you can cut on your own?  Perfect for cutting custom sized backgrounds or die cuts for your projects!).  I gave the chipboard a coat of white gesso and then sealed it with Distress Matte Collage medium.

Several shades of blue Distress Stains were swiped across the background in a random fashion.  I used a water soluble medium because I wanted the blue colour to slightly seep up through the layers of texture paste that I was going to be adding on top.

Ranger Opaque Crackle Texture Paste was added next with a spatula across the top and bottom of the background and some Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter was sprinkled on here and there while the paste was still wet.

While the texture paste dried and crackled, the Pine Branch chipboard piece was painted with several shades of green DecoArt Americana acrylic paint, pouncing the various colours on wet on wet until I was happy with it.  The Pine Branch was then given a coat of satin varnish and set aside to dry.

Two of the adorable sledding Winter Kids were given a coat of Lamp Black Americana acrylic paint and a coat of gloss varnish.

And the Snowflake was painted with white acrylic paint and then embossed with Emerald Creek Craft Supplies Iridescent Shimmer embossing powder for a little winter sparkle.

White sanded texture paste (this is Martha Stewart White Texture Effect) was then added to the middle of the background and a spatula was used to shape it into ‘hills’.  While the paste was wet, a variety of glitters and embossing powders were sprinkled on top for more winter sparkle.  The sanded texture paste was also added to the Pine Branch chipboard piece in ‘globs’ to simulate drifts of snow.

The texture paste was allowed to dry thoroughly and the whole canvas then sealed with gloss varnish.  Once the varnish had dried, the canvas was given a wash of Stormy Sky Distress Stain.  The blue stain was lifted off of the varnished surface with a paper towel right after it had been applied so as to only leave it in the crevasses and crackles.

More drying followed (there’s a lot of drying time on this one!) and the Snow Day sentiment was die cut from navy cardstock that had been adhered to some Rebekah Meier Designs Mixed Media Foam Sheets.  The letters were die cut with Tim Holtz’s Broadway Alphabet die and adhered along the bottom of the background once everything had dried.

All the other elements were then adhered to the background, the Pine Branch was added along the top edge;

The Snowflake nestled on the left underneath the Pine Branch;

And the Winter Kids added to the snowy hills. The edges of the finished piece were then shaded with Faded Jeans Distress ink.

I hope that you have enjoyed seeing how my Snow Day mixed media canvas came together, brings back childhood memories for me of those special days when school was closed because of a blizzard, what fun we all had!

Snowflakes and Holly Christmas Decoration with Deb Riddell

Hello everyone and a happy Thanksgiving to our American friends and followers!  Deb Riddell here with you today to share a Christmas decoration I made with lots of wonderful winter and Christmas chipboard from Southern Ridge Trading Company.

I used Southern Ridge’s medium sized Plain Banners, Holly Berry Assembly, Snowflake and Snowflakes 712 chipboard, read on for my how to.

I started out with a piece of Tim Holtz Tidings Paper Stash cut to 8” x 7” and backed it with a piece of white corrugated cardstock, inking all edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Five Plain Banners were inked with Vintage Photo Distress Stain.

Grunge Block letters to spell out the word ‘merry’ were painted with Titanium White Americana acrylic paint and once dry were covered with Deco Foil Adhesive.  Gina K. Designs Sparkling Silver Fancy Foil was then burnished over top. (If you don’t have Grunge Blocks, any die cut letters will do, just stack up a few of them so you get some dimension on your banners).

The foiled letters were then adhered onto the top of each coloured banner and strung together with a piece of button thread coloured with some silver acrylic paint.

Two of the berry clusters from the Holly Berry Assembly kit (one large and one small) were coloured with Fired Brick Distress Stain and when dry, embossed with three coats of clear embossing powder for a wonderful glossy dimensional finish.   For even more sparkle and shine, a piece of Gina K. Designs Sparkling Silver Fancy Foil was adhered behind the berries.

Five holly leaves from the Holly Berry Assembly kit were inked with Forest Moss Distress Stain and when dry, embossed with three coats of clear embossing powder once again.

The holly clusters were then adhered on each end of the ‘merry’ banner.

As you can see, I also spattered the finished plaque with some diluted Titanium White Americana acrylic paint to simulate a snowy blizzard

Two of the large Snowflake chipboard pieces were painted and foiled in the same manner as the ‘merry’ Grunge Block letters.

And finally, three Mini Paper Snowflakes were die cut from white cardstock and foiled with more Gina K. Designs Sparkling Silver Fancy Foil and a couple of pieces from Tim Holtz’s Festive Ephemera Pack were edged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

The ephemera and snowflakes were then adhered to the plaque to complete the decoration.

Let It Snow Christmas Card with Deb Riddell

Hello and thank you for stopping by, Deb Riddell here with you today to share a Christmas card created with lots of wonderful Christmas and winter chipboard from Southern Ridge Trading Company.

I used Southern Ridge’s Poinsetta Drop, Bare Branches and Snowflake chipboard to create my Let It Snow Christmas card and have a few step out photos to share with you, enjoy!

I started out with a white A6 card blank (4½” x 6½”) and cut a front panel from more white cardstock to 4¼” x 6¼”, colouring the front panel with Distress stains and inks in multiple shades of green (Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint and Iced Spruce).  Snowflakes were then stenciled onto the front with embossing ink and heat embossed with Iridescent Shimmer embossing powder from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies for a subtle shimmery and snowy background.

Three Poinsetta Drop ornaments were painted with gold metallic acrylic paint and then backed with snowflake design scrapbook papers from my stash in shades of blue and teal.

A Snowflake chipboard piece was painted with white acrylic paint and then heat embossed with more Iridescent Shimmer embossing powder.

One of the Bare Branches chipboard pieces was inked with brown Distress stain (Vintage Photo Distress stain).

Opal Deco Foil was adhered to the adhesive side of a length of Rebekah Meier Designs Mixed Media Art Tape.

Three Fold Up Bows were then die cut from the foiled Art Tape.

And the ‘let it snow’ sentiment was die cut from white cardstock covered with more Opal Deco Foil using the Holiday Words 2: Script die.

To assemble the card, the green background panel was adhered to the A6 white card blank and the Bare Branches chipboard piece was glued to the top left corner.  White button thread was coloured with the gold metallic acrylic paint and glued to the back of each of the Poinsetta Drop ornaments and the Opal Deco Foil Fold Up Bows added to the front of each ornament.

The three ornaments were then adhered to the card front so they appeared to be hanging from the Bare Branch.

And finally, the embossed Snowflake and ‘let it snow’ sentiment were added to the bottom of the card.
