Table Top Tombstone with Erin Quiding-Sampson

I’m back on the blog to share this awesome Halloween Tombstone. I love making a special Halloween meal for my family and this will be perfect to add to the spooky décor.

To start off I primed both the front and back pieces with black gesso

I mixed together black paint and medium weight texture paste. I used a brick stencil and then applied a thick coat of paste over most of the tombstones. I purposely left some areas without, to add interest.

This takes quite a while to dry, so I used my heat gun to help it along.

When it was almost dry I added a bit of white sparkle paint to highlight the brick and then I used a metallic copper paint to highlight it all even more.

When that was all dry, I poked a large enough hole into the top- center, of the larger tombstone to place a battery-operated light through.

The first thing I do with the light is to make sure it works, THEN I mess with it! My light had a plastic “flame” covering the bulb. I want to take that off so that the bulb just pokes through the back. You can either take apart the light to get the plastic out or you can carefully use scissors or an exacto knife to cut it off.

I use double sided tape to hold the light in place.

Next, I cut a piece of Velum large enough to cover the back of the RIP tombstone. I stuck it down with double sided tape.

This helps with the lighting.

Then, I cut a strip of 3/4 inch by 11 ½ black cardstock. I scored it on the long side at the ¼ inch and the ½ inch mark. Place ¼ inch score tape on the outer edges as below.

Then stick down 1 side to the area around the light will be and the whole RIP. This makes it so the light filters out the velum and not the sides. Cut off any extra cardstock.

Press the front piece onto the back piece being careful not to block the light.

Steampunk Wreath with Erin Quiding-Sampson

Hello 😊 I’m back this week to share with you, my newest, favourite project. My steampunk wreath!  

To start off this wreath, I used a 12-inch wreath frame and a roll of deco mesh.

I used pipe cleaners to hold the mesh onto the frame. I then added some gold and silver tulle that I cut into 8-inch-long pieces, folded them in half lengthwise and fastened the center onto the wreath, with more pipe cleaners.

Next, I used embossing ink on my chipboard pieces and covered them all with emerald creek embossing powder, in Patina Oxide (can I just say, you NEED to try this embossing powder with our chipboard!! Its fantastic!)

After the pieces were embossed and cooled off, I sprayed them with a teal shimmer spray. I set those aside and worked on my top hat. I sprayed the top hat with 2 tones of chocolate shimmer spray and added some feathers to the back of it.

I then got out the trusty glue gun – I added the large Steampunk piece, the cogs, the hat and a few peacock feathers.

To finish it off I added a large pipe cleaner to the back for hanging.

Post It Tag with Erin Quiding-Sampson

Hi, today I’m sharing a chipboard tag I made into a post it notes holder.

I started off with a package of chipboard leaves and tags. I selected a few leaves and 1 tag, then I coated them with gesso and allowed them to dry.

I then used Distress oxides in fall colours to colour the front of the tag and the leaves.

I added strong double-sided tape to 2 magnets to stick to the top and bottom of the back of the tag.

I created a small bow and a loop (for the pen) with some fall coloured ribbon.

I added the loop to the bottom-front of the tag, for the pen to sit in and then glued the post it note pad, over top of the ribbon.

I added a leaf to the ribbon holding the pen, the center of the bow and also 3 layered in the top right-hand corner.

And that finished it off.

Ocean Gulls with Erin Quiding-Sampson

Hello, I hope everyone’s summer is off to a great start!

My project this week is an ocean scene that I’m calling Ocean Gulls on a 12 by 12 canvas. I had a project that I didn’t looove so I took it apart and re-used the canvas for this project.

To start off, I mixed acrylic paints into plastic cups with a bit of pouring medium and water to make it flow. I made the mixture very thin because I wanted the background to move quickly and the weight of the canvas to remain light.

Setting the canvas up on a level surface I poured the paints in a side to side motion. First pouring white though out, the brown tones towards the center and the blues in a zigzag motion from top to bottom. I then lifted the canvas and moved the paint off the edges and side to side until I felt it had the look of water flowing over a sandy beach.

While the canvas dried, I prepped all the chipboard pieces with gesso.

Painting the sea gulls grey, the grass green, and the posts brown. I painted them quite dark with the intention of white washing them after they were adhered to the canvas.

I placed all the pieces on the canvas, gluing them down with matte gel medium. After they dried, I mixed white acrylic paint and water to create a very watered down, white wash. I white washed over each piece of chipboard using my fingers to get the effect I wanted.

I then added a few shells using gel medium to the posts and all along the bottom of the canvas to give it a more anchored feel.   

I painted some sea gull “foot” prints on the background and added black for the eyes and yellow onto the beaks.

As a final touch, I mixed together some Kosher salt and acrylic paint to make sand. I added the sand to the bases of the posts and in and around the sea shells.

Sweet Ballerina Mini Layout with Erin Quiding-Sampson

Hello today I’m sharing a card that could also be used as a mini layout. It would look great on the wall, in a frame or sitting on a mini easel as shown in the photos.

To create this card, I used one chipboard ballerina from Lil Ballerinas and the word Sweet from Word Mix 2. I prepped them with a thin coat of Gesso.

While those were drying, I cut the card pieces out of 110lb card stock and some co-ordinating papers from Lawn Fawn.

The sizes are as follows:

Pink - 5 by 5 inch

White - 4 ½ by 4 ½

Decorative paper - 4 ¼ by 4 ¼

Pink - 4 by 4

White - 3 ½ by 3 ½

I also used my silhouette machine to cut out the word Ballerina with the decorative paper x2 so that I could stack them and add some dimension and sturdiness to the letters.

I painted the word Sweet and the Ballerina with a mix of 1 part white and 2 parts pink. I then used the same paint mix to colour some flower petals to create a tutu for the lil ballerina.

I allowed the pieces to dry, then cut the flower petal to fit around the waist and stacked the pieces to create a puffy tutu.

I stacked the first 3 layers centered, then the next 2 on an angle.

I glued down the Ballerina and the words’ Sweet Ballerina.

To finish it all off I added some iridescent glitter glue to the ballerina’s waist, star, tiara, slippers and both words.

I plan to add a photo of the recipient before the card is gifted.
