First Snow Day Scrapbook Layout with Karla Yungwirth

Hello friends! Karla back today with a frosty layout using the gorgeous Large Snowflake Wreath from Southern Ridge Trading Company, a snowflake from the Snowflakes 712 pack, some Mini Wood Sleighs and my favourite Soda Fizz Stencil to document our first snowfall this year in Calgary, Alberta!

I customized the Snowflake Wreath by painting it first with some beautiful, creamy Paper Artsy Paints by Seth Apter and then added Ranger Matte Medium to each part that I wanted to emboss with Emerald Creek Embossing Powders. After I added the embossing to the snowflakes and swirls with Winters Mistake, Mermaid Fin and Kiss Of The Fairy Embossing Powders I then embossed the whole frame with Fractured Ice Powder. I printed my photo as a 3x4 and it framed it beautifully.

I used one of the kits from Scrap Shotz Kit Club from last year that featured the Carta Bella Cabin Fever Collection and I painted the tiny Mini Wood Sleighs to match the colours with the Paper Artsy Paints. They are so adorable!!

I embossed the pretty snowflake from the Snowflakes 712 pack with Emerald Creek Mermaid Fin powder and used some Shimmerz clear sparkly texture paste over the Soda Fizz Stencil to give a snowy effect at the top and bottom of the page.

I just love how I’m able to easily and beautifully customize the SRTC embellishments to match my projects! There is such a wide assortment of Chipboard and Wood Veneer available in the shop that you’ll be sure to find just the right one for your own project! Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful week ahead!

I'm Sorry - Winter Canvas with Erin Quiding-Sampson

I saw this saying and thought it was really funny!! I knew I must make something using it. Sooo today's project is for those of us that are done with winter and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring.

To create the background, I pre-moistened a 5 by 7 canvas with a bit of water and painted acrylic paints on the diagonal.

I used Gesso on the large snowflake frame and the small sign, over that I added distress glitter and then melted UT embossing powder over top.

I stamped the girl image on 110 lb card stock and cut her out. I used water colours and a water brush to colour her in.

Stickers were used on the same 110 lb cardstock then cut I out the words to add to the sign.

I used a small amount of distress glitter on all the small snowflakes then I melted silver embossing powder to give it that “icy look”

I layered everything onto the canvas using gel medium to adhere it.
I hope you enjoyed my canvas as much as I enjoyed making it!
Still chuckling every time I see it.

Peace On Earth Christmas Card Box with Deb Riddell

Hello everyone, Deb Riddell here with you today to share a Christmas card storage box I made with the beautiful Snowflake Wreath and Peace On Earth Words chipboard from Southern Ridge Trading Company.

This one is quick and easy and would make a lovely gift filled with handmade cards for someone special or would be a pretty Christmas decor piece where you could store all of the cards you receive over this holiday season.

First step is to make a box!  I made mine 7” x 7” x 2” from some Shimelle Christmas Magic paper in shades of teal green, red and white.  I found this very cool online template maker - http://www.templatemaker.nl - just plug in the dimensions you want for most any shape of box and they’ll make a template for you to download!

I wanted the Snowflake Wreath to stand out on top of the box so I added an inset piece of red foiled paper from my stash to the top of the box, tattering the edges.

The large Snowflake Wreath was quickly painted with Cool White DecoArt Americana acrylic paint (I sponge the paint on for these intricate chipboard pieces so that you don’t get an ‘blobs’ of paint inside those delicate cut outs).

Once the paint had dried, I added a coat of Deco Foil Transfer Gel, sponging it on in the same manner as the paint, and set it aside to dry for about an hour.  Deco Foil Transfer Gel is designed to be used with heat to transfer the metallic foils, so I activated the dried Transfer Gel on the wreath with my heat gun in small areas, burnishing on some Sparkling Silver Fancy Foil with a bone folder to the heated areas.  I repeated the heating and burnishing process until the entire wreath was covered with the Sparkling Silver foil.

The Peace On Earth Words were painted with Art-C Silver Metallic paint and then embossed with pearl embossing powder from my stash.  I ended up finger painting on some silver Stickles Glitter glue to give the words a little more shine as well.

Deco Foil PeelNStick Toner Sheet was covered with Sparkling Silver Fancy Foil and four decorative lace strips were die cut with a Spellbinders Shapeabilities Damask Accents die.

The die cut strips were then adhered around the edges of the box lid by simply peeling off the backing paper from the foiled Toner Sheet strips and pressing them into place.

Four snowflakes were also die cut from the same silver foiled toner sheet with Tim Holtz’s Mini Paper Snowflakes dies and one added to each corner of the box top.

The foiled Snowflake Wreath was centered on top of the red panel on the box top and glued into place with iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive.  The Peace On Earth Words were bumped up on a few pieces of black fun foam and adhered in the center of the wreath.

And that was it, the box was complete and was filled with some handmade cards all ready for gifting!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing my Christmas card box and that you’ve been inspired to make one of your own.  Southern Ridge’s wonderful intricate chipboard pieces make it so easy to create a beautiful gift or home decor piece with just a few touches of paint and sparkle.
