Good morning!

Its a sad day – today will be my final post for Southern Ridge Trading Company – it has been awesome being on this team!

Oh, how time flies – this was our youngest when he graduated Kindergarten – he is now 17!

I used Penelope Dee papers that I tore and layered

For the chipboard flourish and Moments in Time title piece, I painted them in the blue then inked the edges with red ink then added a few gems for visual interest.

Good morning!

I have another layout to share with you today

This handsome guy is our oldest who graduated high school last year!

I embossed the chipboard Star Wreath with red and black then cut a section off and used it in the bottom corner.

The fabulous flowers were created using dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs

I also heat embossed the title piece 'Believe in yourself' with red and black embossing powder

Documented Scrapbook Layout with Laura Gilhuly

Good morning!

Man, it feels good to be creative again!

I had a lot of fun creating this layout using Southern Ridge chipboard and some beautiful papers from Blue Fern Studios

I started by trimming, inking then layering various papers from Blue Fern that I had in my stash

I altered the chipboard Mina Butterfly Trellis and the Vintage Border by painting it blue with Prima paint, letting it dry then applying a layer of Folk Art crackle medium, allowing to dry then added a top coat of folk art brown paint...the crackles look very cool

I added some inked flowers and beads to add visual interest.  I did not have any brown flowers so I changed the colour with some Lindy's mist.

Winter Scrapbook Layout with Laura Gilhuly

Good morning!

Life has gotten a little slower here and I feel like I can start to create again!

Today I am sharing a wintry fun layout I did for Southern Ridge Trading Company

I started by trimming then layering my papers then die cutting many circle using the stitched circles die from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  I inked all the outside edges of my papers using the lawn fawn white ink.

To enhance the snow already on the patterned paper I used the Soda Fizz stencil and the white ink.

For the wonderful Snow Flourishes I inked them white, applied clear embossing powder, then while the embossing powder was still sticky I added some Elizabeth Craft Designs Cool Diamond Silk Microfine glitter to add some more shine!

F-Cancer Scrapbook Layout with Laura Gilhuly

Good morning!

I am going to share a lot that was probably one of the hardest layouts I have ever made -  not because of the products or techniques but because of the subject matter

This is my husband....

  

I used some Blue Fern Studios paper that is grungy to match the mood I was trying to set for this layout

For the F – cancer title I embossed it with black and cut out the 'U' and replaced it with a Tim Holtz skull and cross bones from my stash

I sprayed the Scroll borders with red and black mist to keep with the darker theme...

I also sprayed some flowers from my stash as well as some cheesecloth to add more grunge.

 On the side I used another scroll border, misted flower, metal gear and a fabulous Soda Fizz stencil from SWTC that I used black in with.

On the back is my journaling – it is long so I understand if you choose not to read it

In April 2018 we received the news that Jon has prostate cancer…The air was sucked out of the room….I couldn’t breathe….The world just stopped…I kept thinking “What???   He’s too young….This can not be happening” Then I looked at my husband and realized he was as scared as I was but he was being strong and he needed me to be too, so I would be.  I remember Dr. Chin telling us that it would be in Jons best interest to have the surgery.  When Jon had his biopsy done previously we talked about all the different options if it came back cancerous….neither of us wanted to risk the rest of Jon’s life and decided if surgery was an option that is what we wanted.  On November 29^th 2018 he had the surgery.  We waited for a couple of hours in pre op, then came Jon’s turn to be wheeled away…..and I wasn’t strong anymore…I couldn’t hold back the tears….they ran down my face freely….I was so scared

Cody, Jon’s parents and I waited for what seemed to be an eternity before Dr. Chin came to see us.  I remember the words ‘the surgery went well and we believe we got all the cancer…Jon bled a lot but the surgery was a success and he will be ok’  Relief flooded over me…..I think I started to breathe again

After the surgery Jon was in a lot of pain….He was in post op for hours and no one would tell us anything.  Each passing minute seemed like an eternity and I was getting more and more worried.  I just wanted to see him.  Finally at around 6 pm (his surgery was at 8am) I finally got to see him…he was in so much pain….his eyes were glossy, he hurt so bad….I felt useless….I couldn’t help him.  Here is the man I love….my whole world…..in so much pain.  I have seen this man almost cut his finger off and just put a paper towel over it and wrap it up with electrical tape and keep going….hit his head so bad that he bled a lot and gave himself a concussion and keep working….have his wisdom teeth surgically removed and go to work within a few hours and he is writhing in pain….crying in pain and there is nothing I can do.  The first day was horrible, he couldn’t sleep unless I was laying next to him – in the little tiny hard bed.  The nurses were all awesome especially Emily who took wonderful care of Jon.  She was kind and caring and knew her job.  She was always on time with his pain medications, brought him warm blankets to lay on his incision and just took awesome care of him.  On Saturday she said she wanted to try something else since the morphine was not working and switched him to Toradol which worked. He was finally able to rest and begin the healing process. I slept at the hospital with him….I didn’t want to leave him and the wonderful nurses understood. On Sunday we got to go home.  I did my best to take care of him, giving him his meds, hot press for his incision, cleaning his needs, holding him, and not letting him see me cry.  He trudged through like a trooper, getting better every day.  On December 21^st we received the pathology report saying he was all clear.  It was the best Christmas present we could have received!  I get to keep my husband!  His scar will serve as a reminder to not take life for granted!­

Memories & Blessed Stand Up Canvas with Laura Gilhuly

Good Morning!

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and all your holiday wishes came true!

This year I made many gifts for friends...this is one for a very dear and sweet friend who has become like family

I started with the medium wood stand up canvas and covered it with gesso, I then used the small heart stencil with texture paste and allowed to dry naturally.  I layered different colours of grey and turquoise mists.

I embossed the title, mini connected hearts, and border pieces 

I followed the same process for the other side

To add some more visual interest I added some lights!

Altered Christmas Wine Bottle with Laura Gilhuly

Good morning!

Christmas is upon us and to help put me in the Christmas spirit I like creating Christmas crafts!

To create this I emptied a wine bottle and covered it in 3 layers of gesso, added some crackle paste and allowed to dry.  I then layered different colours of mists then added some embossing paste through the Southern Ridge circle stencil, and added some silver embossing powder and heat set it

My husband soaked the 'Believe' chipboard and 'Holly berry branch' in water for 24 hours then shaped it around the bottle and glued it down for me

I painted the pieces then dry brushed some gesso on it.

I added lots of baubles and poinsettias then added some white gesso to give it a frosty look!

Because every Picture tells a Story Scrapbook Layout with Laura Gilhully

Good morning!

As a mom of two boys and married to great manly man type of guy – I get excited when I find masculine elements I can use on my pages! 

For this layout I used the Gear corners from Southern Ridge Trading Company 

I covered the corners with different colours of embossing powder to get the look I wanted, then added some metal gears.

I cut apart the one gear corner and added a few pieces here for dimension

Here is the piece I cut apart – love that I can do that without the chipboard fraying or falling apart!

Here you can see the mixed media work I did in the background by using texture paste through the circle stencil from Southern Ridge, then different colours of embossing powder.

Lazy Summer Days Scrapbook Layout with Laura Gilhuly

Fall is here is full force – the leaves have changed, its rainy, and its cold at night....I miss summer

So I created a summer layout!

I started by trimming Tim Holtz papers then applied clear gesso to the front and back  of main sheet of paper so it does not curl.

I then used embossing paste through my new stencil from Southern Ridge.  I added some mocha embossing powder and then some blue tinsel embossing powder and heat set.  I then applied some turquoise and burnt sienna Brusho powders.  I sprayed with water and let the it dry

 I created a line of flowers, shells, pearls and prills to go with the nautical theme

I love the title - it came with a really cute summer sun but it didn't end up suiting my layout so I trimmed it off.

The title I covered with ink then added the mocha embossing powder and the blue sparkle powder and heat set it.  I did it a few times until it looked like I wanted it to.  I put some turquoise Brusho powder on my work mat, sprayed with water then dabbed it on my title piece.
