Father's Day Gift Idea with Karla Yungwirth

Hello friends! It’s Karla here today with a Father’s Day gift idea for you using the Southern Ridge Trading Company Vintage Truck and Nuts and Bolts Chipboard along with the Medium size Multi Gear Stencil. My husband recently found this photo of his grandpa and shared it with me. I thought it would be a great photo to print off and present to him for Father’s Day! His grandpa was an awesome man, and even though I didn’t get to meet him until he was much older, I knew that he was a very important person in my husband’s life. He worked for many years as a mechanic, so as soon as I saw the truck and nuts & bolts chipboard pieces and the gear stencil I knew they would work perfectly all together.

I started off by staining a wooden frame from Michaels with Ranger Distress Stains by Tim Holtz. I have to admit, I haven’t used these for a while, and I was even thinking about giving them away, but I really love how they covered the wood! I added the Tea Dye first and then used some of the Vintage Photo to darken spots to give a weathered look.

I then took some Walnut Stain Distress Ink and the Multi Gear Stencil and sponged the top left and bottom right areas lightly. I have used this stencil so many times – it’s definitely one of my favourites!

Next I used various mists and stains to paint in the Nuts and Bolts and Vintage Truck Chipboard pieces. I found that by dipping a thin paintbrush into the bottles I could control the mist and add the details. The truck is so intricately cut – it’s amazing!

I stamped a sentiment from one of the Kelly Creates traceable stamp sets using Black Archival Ink across the top of the frame.

A bit of hot glue attached all the chipboard pieces to the frame.

I love how this turned out, and I know my husband will be surprised on Father’s Day and love it too!

Altered Clipboard with Karla Yungwirth

Hello friends, Karla back today. I’m so excited to be continuing on with the awesome Southern Ridge Trading Company Design Team, and I can’t wait to bring you inspiration using the fun products in the shop each month!! Today, I’m sharing an Altered Steampunk Clipboard using the Steampunk Dragonfly Chipboard (sm)Mini Wood GearsMulti Gear Stencil and Fibers Stencil from the SRTC Shop.

It was fun to pair the cool steampunk supplies with the metallic embossing powders to create coordinating accents. The stencils add such a neat layer of interest of dimension as well! Those gears turned out so neat! I’ve used them on quite a few projects previously and I still have some left over. I love how versatile they are!

I just love how all the layers of powders melted beautifully on the lovely chipboard dragonfly. It did not warp at all even after heating it numerous times and was easily attached to the embellished clipboard with Matte Medium adhesive. The stencils added so much detail using both Distress Oxide Inks and Embossing Powders.

You can find the video HERE to see the process I used to create this chipboard wall-hanging and see how easy it is to customize the chipboard and wood pieces! I had so much fun combining all these fun products and really love how this project turned out!

Merry Christmas Card with Karla Yungwirth

Hi friends, Karla back today with a masculine Christmas card using the awesome Multi Gear Stencil and Mini Wood Gears. I decided to try the Alcohol Lift technique and love how it turned out!

I started by adding Ranger Alcohol Ink to a piece of Yupo paper cut to fit my card. I grabbed a couple greens, a blue and a mushroom colour. As I dried the inks with my heat gun it pushed them around a bit. Then, I layered the Multi Gear Stencil on the background and put a bit of Alcohol Lift Reinker on a sponge. I lightly sponged all over the background and when I removed the Stencil I layered a baby wipe on top of the background- being careful not to rub, I just pressed it down and it pulled up the Ink colour. I then let it dry a bit and lightly buffed with a soft tissue to remove a little more ink. I stamped Merry Christmas with the Wild Whisper Christmas Comfort 4x4 stamp set directly on the background.

I created a metallic effect on the Mini Wood Gears by embossing them with Emerald Creek Hammered Metal and Charred Gold Embossing Powders. I love this Jeep from the Wild Whisper Christmas Comfort 2x3 stamp set! I stamped it on kraft cardstock and coloured it in with Jane Davenport Magic Wand Coloured Pencils and added some Emerald Creek Pyrite Gemstones under the wheels.

Fall Mini Album with Karla Yungwirth

Hello friends! Karla back today to share a Fall mini album using a brand new Chipboard Mini Album that will be in the Southern Ridge Shop soon!

Last October our family went to Fish Creek Park in Calgary, Alberta to get family photos done. It was such a lovely fall day we decided to take advantage of the weather and the autumn colours and get some of our own pictures too! This album was perfect to document our day and scrapbook those pics!

The album has 6 thick chipboard pages with two holes in each one to add rings or string through.

I found an older Simple Stories collection- Pumpkin Spice, in my stash and it was perfect to add to the album along with some Recollections fall papers.

I even added a few flaps using some of the journaling cards in the cut apart sheet.

I glued on the patterned paper with tacky glue by first tracing around each chipboard page, cutting out the shape and punching holes to match the album. Once I had glued it down I used a craft knife to trim off any extra paper.

I used both the SRTC Soda Fizz and the Multi Gear Stencil to add Distress Oxide Ink details with a sponge tool on top of the patterned papers.

I love how sturdy these pages are! I used two metal rings in my stash to connect all the pages together.

Each page of the album gradually gets larger so you get a cool effect when you see it from the front. There’s lots of space to add fun photos and embellishments.

Those stencilled details add a fun and cohesive look throughout the album.

I added some of the wood veneer gears to various areas of the album - on the cover (above) I even turned one into a flower! Don’t be afraid to look at any shapes in your stash and see what different ways you can use them.

I love the diecut border edges - they add so much interest!

I even decorated the back cover. This was such a fun project to do!

Nautical Birthday Card with Dawn E

Dawn here, from the little mennonite blog, with a Southern Ridge Trading Company Nautical Birthday card for you today.  My uncle is turning 65 this year and he use to be in the Royal Canadian Navy so I thought this card would be right up his alley!  (He also loves animals!)  I used the Southern Ridge Trading Company Multi Gear stencil and Southern Ridge Trading Company Mini Anchors for this card.
Directions:
Using a white A2 card wet emboss the Southern Ridge Trading Company Multi Gear stencil to the front left.  Let dry.
Stamp out the selected images from Neat and Tangled's Yo Ho Ho stamp set and colour with a alcohol based marker.  I tried to make mine graffiti like with dots, splashes and as little blending as possible.

Colour the Southern Ridge Trading Company's Mini Anchors as shown and overlay GelWriter gold gel pen on top.  Add GelWriter gold gel pen to all the images.  Emboss the sentiment on vellum with fine gold embossing powder.  Complete card as shown with a Glossy Accents.

Birthday Card with Dawn E

Dawn here, from the little mennonite blog, with a Steampunk Birthday card for you today.  I made this for my Uncle who was a shop teacher before becoming a high school principal.  I used 3 products from the Southern Ridge Trading Company: Mini Wood Gears (made of real wood!), Mini Anchors and the Multi Gear Stencil in the smallest size.
Directions:

Using the Southern Ridge Trading Company's Multi Gear Stencil, mix embossing paste with brown and gold paint and apply to card front. Let dry.  Using a distress ink sponge, sponge over Salty Ocean distress ink.  Splatter with water, then pick up water with a paper towel so white paper shows underneath.  Spatter gold Perfect Pearls on top.  Adhere Southern Ridge Trading Company Mini Wood Gears with Glossy Accents.

Paint Southern Ridge Trading Company Mini Anchor gold and adhere with Glossy Accents.

Using Lawn Fawn's Quinn's ABCs and 123s stamp out sentiment with black Memento ink and colour with Pro-Markers (or any alcohol based markers) to show a colour gradient.  Cut out and paste with Glossy Accents to card front.

I love all the products I used for this card, but my favorite was the Southern Ridge Trading Company Mini Wood Gears - a must have product.  :)
