Vintage Bicycles with Deb Antonick

I just fell in love with these new Stamperia Rice papers.

I chose to make 2 canvases so as not to waste any of this gorgeous paper.

To start, I applied a coat of Gesso to chipboard bikes and the 2 wood canvases.

Cut the paper to fit the larger wood canvas keeping to the upper right of the paper so as to utilize the flowers. Apply with Matte Medium.

Use a palette knife and a brick look stencil and apply modelling paste to the smaller Wood Canvas, and the upper right and lower left of the larger canvas over the paper. Let dry.

Emboss the chipboard Bicycles and the branches with the Emerald Creek Allure Burnt Copper Leaves embossing powder.

Paint over the texture with Razzleberry. Let dry.

Drybrush over the pink with Light Buttermilk. Let dry.

Adhere the remaining paper to a piece of Cardstock with Matte Medium. Let dry, then cut to create the upper right and lower left corners.

Adhere the paper with glue.

Shade around the edges on both of the wood canvases with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Burnt Umber.

Stamp a piece of cardstock with the Dream stamp and trim to size. Adhere with Matte Medium. Outline with the Stabilo pencil or permanent marker.

Add brads to the wheels.

Adhere all the chipboard pieces with Pop Up Glue Dots.

Adhere flowers with Glue.

Finish the sides of the wood canvas with Razzleberry.

Mini Beach Houses with Deb Antonick

It has been a long winter and the hint of spring is in the air, and that means buds on the trees, patio furniture and walks along the beach.

For these little houses I started with some little MDF arrows, but you could easily just cut these from cardboard, some beachy scrapbook papers, and Mini Chipboard elements.

Trim the papers to fit the arrows and adhere with DecoArt Decoupage Matte.

Basecoat all the chipboard pieces with Gesso.

Paint the pieces in a coordinating colour. I chose to use a Whispering Turquoise and Light Buttermilk.

Shade all the pieces with DecoArt Media Burnt Umber.

Highlight the pieces with DecoArt Media Titanium White.

Adhere all the Chipboard pieces with glue.

Stamp Beachy words onto paper and cut out. Adhere to the houses with the Decoupage Matte Medium.

I used some of the remaining stamps to fill up some of the empty spaces.

Paint the palms and the grass with DecoArt Media Green Gold.

I outlined everything with the Stabilo pencil and went over it with a damp liner brush. If you prefer, you can use a permanent black marker.

Embellish with some tiny crystals.

Dream with Deb Antonick

I am always dreaming of new ways to use product. I love texture and stamps any trying new things.

I started with a 6 x 6 wood tile.

Tore some paper scraps and adhered with Decoupage.

Sprinkled some glitter for more texture.

Sealed with a coat of Antique Decoupage.

Spritz the background with the Yellow Mister and the Orange mister.

Scrape on a thin random layer of Gesso with an old credit card.

Estimate placing of the face stamp and paint with Mocha.

Stamp the face with Lamp Black. ( I don’t use ink pads)

Shade the face with Quinacridone Gold. Highlight with Titanium White.

Tint the hair with thinned Cobalt Teal Hue. Shade with Prussian Blue Hue.

Base the lips with thinned Primary Magenta.

Shade around the design with Quinacridone Gold.

Stamp on the feathers and tint the beads.

Emboss the DREAM with a vintage aged gold powder.

Adhere with Glue.

Trick or Treat with Deb Antonick

I love this simple technique for creating “junk” collages. It gives me a chance to use up odds and ends and leftovers from other packages.

Instructions:

- Base coat the canvas and the Graveyard scene with Black Gesso.

- Apply Black modelling paste to the canvas and place in the gears, branch, fence and stars while still wet.

- Let dry.

- Glue on the Graveyard.

Glue on some more stuff!

- Let dry.

- Dry brush over everything with Metallic Lustre Iced Espresso.

- Dry brush again with Metallic Lustre Orange Flicker.

Dry brush with Cosmic Blue.

 Dry brush with Fab Fuchsia and then a little Silver Spark.

Adhere a sticker for the sign.

Life is a Journey with Deb Antonick

As a DecoArt Helping Artist and now a member of the DecoArt Design Team, one of the perks is access to the latest and greatest that DecoArt has to offer. One of these highly-anticipated products has been the Premium Tube Acrylics.

One of the challenges as a member of their design teams is to find different and exciting ways to use this product.

First, I have to say that it is perfect for mixed media and chipboard, so let’s do something just a little bit different.

Basecoat the surface with a coat of Back Gesso

Brush a few random strokes of paint starting with Primary Magenta, then Cadmium Orange Hue, followed by Primary Yellow.

Fill in the black areas with Titanium White.

Note: Do not blend the colors together.

Add a few random pieces of the Washi Tape, just for fun, while the paint is still wet.

Quickly run the brayer over the surface to blend the paint for a distressed look.

Load the Doily stamp with Titanium White using the brayer and randomly stamp the background in 3 places.

Clean the stamp and the brayer with a Baby Wipe.

Load the Writers Block stamp with Carbon Black and stamp random sections in different directions.

Basecoat the Words “Life is a Journey” with Carbon Black and adhere to the surface with DecoArt Matte Medium.

Trace and cut the angel onto a sheet of old dictionary paper. Adhere to the surface with Matte Medium.

Use the Butterfly Wings stencil and DecoArt Media Texture Paste to add the wings using a palette knife. While the wings are still wet, sprinkle with Glamour Dust.

Basecoat the dress with by slip slapping Primary Magenta, Cadmium Orange Hue and Primary Yellow. For a blended look.

Basecoat the head with Titan Buff. Shade with Burnt Sienna.

Drybrush the cheeks with Metallic Lustre Polished Coral. Dot the eyes with Carbon Black. Dot the cheeks and the eyeballs with Titanium White.

Shade around the outer edge of the canvas, and around the angel with Paynes Grey.

Outline the angel and under the wings with the Stabillo All pencil. Soften the pencil with a damp ¼” angle shader.

Basecoat the feathers with Carbon Black. Trim and adhere to the dress with Matte Medium.

Use your fingers to rub the feathers with the Metallic Lustres.

Rub some of the Brilliant Turquoise onto the wings and to the Metal Butterfly.

Randomly stamp the background using the Dinosaur stamp and Cobalt Teal Hue.

Emboss the words, the halo and the feathers.

Adhere the butterfly and the metal heart with Glue Dots.

Country Window with Deb Antonick

As a decorative painter, I took this months project as a bit of a challenge. I loved the stencil to decided to play with some texture techniques.

I started with the stencil and DecoArt Crackle Paste applied with a palette knife.  It is important to let the Paste air dry to get the nice cracks. 

When dry, apply a coat of Gesso. 

I then brushed some random patches of Cobalt Teal Hue and Transparent Red Iron Oxide. And let dry.

I then brushed on a coat of Carbon Black Antiquing Cream.  Let sit for a minute the wipe off with a damp cloth or baby wipe. Antiquing Medium never really dries or cures so needs to be sealed with a coat of DecoArt Matte Medium to deactivate.

I love this technique, there are so May possibilities.

Apply a thin coat of the Crackle Paste to the base and allow to dry. Paint with Sap Green. Then apply the Antiquing Cream as above.

I painted the shutters and window crown with Cobalt Teal Hue, shaded with Prussian Blue Hue, then tinted with a bit of Transparent Red Iron Oxide.

I painted the window frame with White and shaded with Transparent Red Iron Oxide.

I found a vintage look flower picture from my stash and adhered with Matte Medium.

I carried all the colours into the bicycle along with Carbon Black and White to make a Grey from the tires.

I glued everything into place and added a tin heart, some flowers to the basket and flat back crystals to the bike tires.
