Hooray It's Autumn Time Tag with Katelyn Grosart

Hey Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. For today's post, I was inspired by the weather change here on Vancouver Island. The rain is in full swing now and it feels like Autumn is here, even though Fall hasn't officially started. With Fall on my mind, this Hooray It's Autumn Time Tag.  To embellish my tag, I featured a variety of our popular fall themed chipboard pieces. You'll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my tag at home.

To start, choose a feather that looks as close to a leaf out of the Tribal Feather Mix. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to the feather. Sprinkle Vintage Ivy Embossing Powder overtop of the feather. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Take one of the Skeleton Leaf out of the package. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to the leaf. Sprinkle Weathered Wood Embossing Powder overtop of the leaf. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

From the Skeleton Maple Leaf package, take one out of the package. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to the leaf. Sprinkle Baked Texture - Chunky Rust Embossing Powder overtop of the leaf. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Take a Fine Clock Face out of the package. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to the leaf. Sprinkle Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder overtop of the leaf. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

From the Pumpkin Leaves, take two out of the package. Apply two coats of Peeled Paint Distress Paint to each pumpkin leaf. Once the paint has fried, rub Forest Moss Distress Crayon along the edges of the leaves using your finger.

Take three Mini Wood Maple Leaves out of the package. Apply two coats of Candied Apple Distress Stain to two of the leaves. Apply two coats of Spiced Marmalade Distress Stain on one of the leaves. Once the stain has dried on all three leaves, rub Walnut Stain Distress Ink along the edges of the leaves using your finger.

Trace the Chipboard Tag onto a piece of patterned paper. Cut the patterned paper tag out. Ink the edges of the chipboard tag and patterned paper tag using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From a second piece of patterned paper, cut a piece that measures 2 3/4" x 3 5/8". Ink the edges of the patterned paper piece using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From the same collection, fussy cut the Hooray It's Autumn Time out of the border strip. Cut the words apart. Ink the edges of the words using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the patterned paper tag to the chipboard tag. Adhere the 2 3/4" patterned paper piece to the patterned paper tag.

Adhere the Fine Clock Face to the middle of the tag. Adhere one of the pumpkin leaves to the top right side of the clock face. Adhere the other pumpkin leaf to the middle left side of the clock. Punch a hole at the top of the tag.

Adhere the Vintage Ivy Feather 1" from the left and 1 1/8" from the bottom of the tag. Adhere the weathered wood leaf to the left side of the Vintage Ivy Feather. Adhere the Chunky Rust wood leaf slightly overtop of the weathered wood leaf and partly overtop of the pumpkin leaf.

Adhere on of the red maple leaves in the top right corner of the tag. Adhere the other red leaf and orange leaf to the bottom left corner of the tag.

Adhere the Hooray It's Autumn Time sentiment  onto your tag. To finish off your tag, tie a piece of dark orange seam binding ribbon to the top of the tag.

An Elegant Fall with Tracy Moreau

My favourite season, I love the crisp clear mornings, the cool air and most especially ... the colours! Vibrant oranges, rust tones and lovely yellows ... all of these blended with the sparkle of a bit of Metallic, lend a little elegance to the season. Thats what I tried to bring a little of to this piece. It's simple and depends entirely on bold colour, a little metallic and shadows.  

I used a single Skeleton Maple Leaf and the Victorian Circle Square Die. I added a few 1/4" cuttings of dowel and a 6x6 artists panel. Some pretty metallics and a minimal palette of Black, Burnt Sienna, Spiced Pumpkin, and Mustard Seed.

I applied a slip slap base coat and blended Spiced Pumpkin, Burnt Sienna and a touch of Mustard Seed. Then base coated the Victorian Circle Square die, with a generous coat of Lamp Black. I let it dry then traced the word "Fall" onto the upper right side of the Victorian Circle Square. I then used a #2 Rigger to paint the lettering with Spiced Pumpkin.

The Skeleton Maple Leaf is sponged with 24kt Gold, Bronze, Copper and a bit of Olive Green and Sapphire Metallic. ( I couldn't resist ... I added a touch of the Bronze and Copper to a few spots on the Circle Square).

I painted all of the 1/4" pieces of dowel with Lamp Black, then glued one to the back of the Skeleton Maple Leaf and 4 to the back of the Victorian Circle Square Frame. I let them dry and then glued the Circle Square to the Art Panel, then I glued the Maple Leaf to the Square. A light spritz with some Matte Spray and a light sprinkle of Glitter just for some added sparkle!

There is Beauty in Simplicity ATC with Katelyn Grosart

Hey there Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. I've started playing around with ATC cards and they are now one of my new favourite things to create with. I find that when I have smaller chipboard pieces left over, using them on an ATC card is a better alternative then having them sitting in the bin with my other chipboard pieces. So today, I've created for you a beautiful fall ATC card, that's perfect to give to that special someone in your life. You'll want to read below as I share with you how I created my There is Beauty in Simplicity ATC card.

To start, take the Skeleton Maple Leaf out of the package. Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the maple leaf. Sprinkle Weathered Wood Embossing Powder over top of the maple leaf. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Set the maple leaf aside to cool.

Next, you'll need one of the Barbed Wire Circle Frames - Small.  Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the frame. Sprinkle Vintage Ivy Embossing Powder over top of the frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Set the frame aside to cool.

Take out the small Abstract Frame.  Apply Emboss It Ink to the entire surface of the frame. Sprinkle Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder over top of the frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Set the frame aside to cool.

Pull out two Mini Wood Maple Leaves. Apply two coats of Candied Apple Distress Stain to each maple leaf. Let the stain dry. Once the stain has dried on both maple leaves, go over each piece with  the Walnut Stain Distress Crayon. Rub the crayon in with your finger.

Choose two Mini Wood Feathers from the package. Stain one of the feathers with Spiced Marmalade Distress Stain and stain the other feather with Pine Needles Distress Stain. Let the stain dry. Once the stain has dried on both feathers, go over each piece with the Walnut Stain Distress Crayon. Rub the crayon in with your finger.

Apply two coats of Spiced Marmalade Distress Paint to one of the Skeleton Leaves.  Once the paint has dried on the leaf, go over the leaf with the Walnut Stain Distress Crayon. Rub the crayon in with your finger.

Cut one piece of patterned paper that measures 2 1/2" x 3 5/8". Cut a second piece of patterned paper that measures 2 3/8" x 3 3/8". On the smaller piece of patterned paper, tear the top left hand side of the paper down and roll the edges over. On the bottom right hand side, tear the paper up and roll the edges over. Distress the edges of each piece of patterned paper. Ink the edges of the patterned paper pieces using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a Blending Tool with Foam.

Cut a piece of kraft cardstock that measures 2 1/2" x 3 5/8". Distress the edges of the cardstock piece. Ink the edges of the cardstock piece using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a Blending Tool with Foam.

Adhere the plaid piece of patterned paper to the brown damask piece of patterned paper. Adhere the brown damask piece of patterned paper to the piece of kraft cardstock.

Adhere the Abstract Frame to the plaid piece of patterned paper. Adhere the Barbed Wire Circle Frame to the middle of the Abstract Frame.

Adhere the orange skeleton leaf to the left hand side of the barbed wire frame. Adhere the weather wood skeleton leaf to the right of the orange skeleton leaf. 

Adhere a maple leaf and a feather in the bottom left hand corner of the ATC card. Adhere the other maple leaf and a feather in the top middle of the ATC card. 

Using glossy accents, adhere a Golden Tiger's Eye and two Carnelian gemstones in the top left and bottom right hand corners of the Abstract Frame. Stick the "there is beauty in simplicity" sentiment to the bottom portion of the two skeleton leaves. To finish off the bottom of the ATC card, wrap some twine four times at the bottom.

Canada 150 Tag with Katelyn Grosart

Hey there Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. Happy early Canada Day! With Canada Day being tomorrow and a few of us from the design team have created projects for a Canada 150 Blog Hop which started yesterday with Tracy from My Grandma's Tea Cup, Emerald Creek Craft Supplies and a few other designers, I created a Canada 150 tag. Although I shared my finished project on my blog yesterday, I wanted to share with you all a tutorial on how to create my Canada 150 tag at home which features a variety of our wood and chipboard pieces which are embellished with a variety of different mediums.  Grab a cup of your favourite beverage and read below as I share with you how I created my Canada 150 tag.

To start, take the moose out of the Canada 150 Set. Apply two coats of Walnut Stain Distress Paint to the bottom portion of the moose. Once the Walnut Stain Distress Paint has dried, apply two coats of Antique Linen Distress Paint to the top portion of the moose. 

Use the small Abstract Heart Frame from the Abstract Heart Frames set. Apply two coats of Candied Apple Distress Paint to the small abstract heart frame.

You'll need all six maple leaves from the Canada 150 Set. You'll also need to get one more Mini Wood Maple Leaf out of the package. To all seven maple leaves, apply two coats of Candied Apple Distress Stain to each maple leaf. Once the stain has dried, apply Festive Berries Distress Crayon to each maple leaf. Rub the distress crayon into the surface of each maple leaf. Before moving on to the next element, you'll need to apply Candied Apple Distress Crayon to each maple leaf. Rub the distress crayon into the surface of each maple leaf.

Take the large Abstract Frame out of the package. Apply Emboss It Ink to the large abstract frame. Sprinkle Glacier White Embossing Powder over the frame. Emboss the frame with your heat tool. 

Next, you'll need a Skeleton Maple Leaf. Apply Emboss It Ink to the skeleton maple leaf. Sprinkle Glacier White Embossing Powder over the maple leaf. Emboss the maple leaf with your heat tool.

Cut a 3" x 3" piece from the Cherrio Pattern. Cut the 3" x 3" piece in half. Apply Emboss It Ink to each cheerio piece. Sprinkle Glacier White Embossing Powder over each cheerio piece. Emboss the pieces with your heat tool.

Take the Canada 150 Maple Leaf out of the Canada 150 Set. To start, use a VersaMark pen and apply ink to the Canada 150 section of the Maple leaf. Sprinkle Oh Canada Embossing Powder to the Canada 150 section of the maple leaf. Emboss the Canada 150 portion with your heat tool. Let cool. If needed, reapply the VersaMark pen to areas that need it and then sprinkle the Oh Canada embossing powder overtop. Emboss with your heat tool.  Use theVersaMark pen to apply the ink to the outside portion of the maple leaf. Sprinkle Candy Crimson Red Embossing Powder over the outside portion of the maple leaf. Emboss the outside portion of the maple leaf with your heat tool. If needed, reapply the VersaMark pen to areas that need it and then sprinkle the Candy Crimson Red embossing powder overtop. Emboss with your heat tool.

Take the Maple Branch out of the package. To start, use a VersaMark pen and apply ink to the branch portion of the maple branch. Sprinkle Weathered Wood Embossing Powder over the branch section of the maple branch. Emboss the branch portion with your heat tool. Let cool. Using a blending tool, blend Festive Berries and Candied Apple Distress Ink over each maple leaf. Once the ink has been applied, apply Festive Berries Distress Crayon to each maple leaf. Rub the distress crayon into the surface of each maple leaf. Apply Candied Apple Distress Crayon to each maple leaf. Rub the distress crayon into the surface of each maple leaf. To finish the maple branch, apply Walnut Stain Distress Crayon to each maple leaf. Rub the distress crayon into the surface of each maple leaf.

Cut the tag down to 9". Ink the edges of the tag using a Blending Tool and Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Using red patterned paper, trace the tag onto it. Cut the tag out. Distress the edges of the patterned paper tag. Using a blending tool and Vintage Photo Distress Ink, ink the edges of the patterned paper tag.

Cut a piece of postcard patterned paper that measures 5 1/8" x 8 1/4". Distress the edges of the patterned paper piece. Using a blending tool and Vintage Photo Distress Ink, ink the edges of the patterned paper piece.

Cut a piece of wood patterned paper that measures 4 7/8" x 8 1/8". Tear a bit down of patterned paper in the top left hand corner. Tear a but up of the patterned paper in the bottom right hand corner.  Distress the edges of the patterned paper piece. Using a blending tool and Vintage Photo Distress Ink, ink the edges of the patterned paper piece.

Adhere the patterned paper to the tag. Adhere the postcard patterned paper to the tag. Adhere one of the cheerio pattern in the top left hand corner of the postcard paper. Adhere the other cheerio pattern in the bottom right hand corner of the postcard paper. 

Adhere the wood patterned paper to the postcard patterned paper. 

Adhere the abstract frame to the middle of the wood patterned paper. 

Using glue and foam squares, adhere the maple branch to the middle of the frame, making sure the branch starts in the top left hand corner of the frame. 

Adhere the Canada 150 Maple Leaf to the Skeleton Maple Leaf.

Adhere the Canada 150 Maple leaf to the middle of the abstract frame. The maple leaf will sit on top of the maple branch.

Adhere the heart abstract frame overtop of the Canada 150 maple leaf.

Adhere one of the maple leaves in the top left hand portion of the frame. Adhere two maple leaves in the bottom left hand portion of the frame, don't be afraid to have some sit on the frame or over the frame. Adhere two maple leaves on the right hand side of the frame sitting in between large maple leaf on the branch.

Here are the last things you'll need to do to finish off your tag, Adhere the moose in the bottom right hand side of the frame. Add a second maple leaf to the top left portion of the frame. Add one more maple leaf to the bottom right hand portion of the frame.

To finish the top of the tag, punch a hole in the tag and tie a bow using white ribbon.
