Look at these 2 handsome fellas! My son Hunter and his best friend Adam on the day of their high school prom.  These 2 are about to set off on the great big adventure called life. I am so happy that they have each other to lean on, good friends are rare and hard to find. Life is about making an impact, go off and explore the world and make your mark on it! I am so proud of these men!

I didn’t want the swirl on the bottom of the Explore word so I simply used my Tim Holtz scissors to cut it off (I find they are the best scissors for the job!). Then I rubbed Black Soot Distress ink across it.

I stained the circle frame with Black Soot Distress Stain and then cut it into 2 pieces. I also stained the stars with black Soot.

I was going to add some old book paper to the photo collage but when I pulled out an old book it had the word WORLD in the title. I really liked it! So I took a piece of scotch tape and burnished it over the word and pulled up the tape and voila – I have the word World!

Celebrating Your Life with Charlene Byrd

Charlene here! Thank you so much for joining me today! If you’re like me you are anxiously waiting spring! I am so tired of the snow, spring can arrive anytime now! The only good thing about the bad weather is that it allows me to work in my studio without feeling guilty that I should be doing something else. Haha!  

Today I’m sharing with you very special layout of my step dad who passed away last year. For those of you who follow me, know that we also lost my brother last year. It was a tough year ☹ Although there were a lot of tears shed while creating this page, it also warmed my heart to think of the good times that we had together. This photo was taken the last time that my mom and Trevor visited us in Ontario (they are from Alberta).  We went on a road trip through the Adirondack mountains to Lake Placid where we stopped along the way to check out many beautiful places and eat lobster (well they did, I don’t like sea food!). Like the journaling says, there are not many photos of the 2 of them together. I am so thankful that I snapped this picture.  We know now that this was the last time he was healthy as there were signs of him being sick while he was visiting (we just didn’t know it), it was a downhill battle for him for the next 9 months.

He will forever be in our hearts!

I stained the clock with Black Soot Distress stain and rubbed Pumice Stone Distress ink across the birdcage and the circle frame. To create the feather I stained it first with Black Soot Distress Stain and then added Distress Glitter with Glue N Seal adhesive.

My Brother Scrapbook Layout with Charlene Byrd

Hello bloggers!

Charlene here. Thanks for joining me today. The layout I'm sharing with you today is a very special layout, one that was really hard for me to create but one that I felt my heart needed to create. As scrapbookers we scrapbook life, the special moments, the memories we want to remember, things that are close to our hearts. I want to remember my brother....forever!

Sadly he was suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us a couple months ago at the young age of 49. A mother shouldn't lose her son, a wife shouldn't lose her husband only 18 days after saying 'I Do' and I shouldn't have to say goodbye to my oldest brother at this early age. Life is just so unfair sometimes.

I am so thankful that I love this hobby that we share, that we can create beautiful pages to celebrate life. My brother will always be remembered by everyone who loved him, I will remember him forever and miss him everyday!

I painted the chipboard pieces with copper acrylic paint. I then gently sanded the edges to reveal a bit of the chipboard and added Walnut Distress ink to the edges.

This past year I have lost my step dad and my brother. It has taught me that life is short, too short. Be sure to tell your loved ones that you love them, take the time to be with friends and family. Do what makes you happy, and scrapbook those memories, for one day they may be gone. And to all of you reading this, thank for for following me. I hope that I inspire you to create beautiful pages too!

Amazing Weekend Scrapbook Layout with Charlene Byrd

Charlene here! Thanks for joining me today! Today I have a great layout that can easily be created with a few stamps, a little scrap paper and of course Southern Ridge Trading Company chipboard!

To begin creating, I simply used Black Soot Distress Stain to colour the Fine Faced Clock. I Then cut it into 2 pieces and attached it over some stamping.

I liked the natural look of the chipboard as it as it matched my paper so I added some stamping on the top and inked the edges.

I used Black Soot Distress Stain to randomly add some colour to the honeycomb pattern.

Canada Day Scrapbook Layout with Charlene Byrd

Hello Bloggers! Charlene here! Happy 2 Days Before Canada Day!

So as you can tell my scrapbook layout is all ready to showcase the celebrations of Canada's 150th birthday! All I need is a great photo to finish my page. We are having a family BBQ at the cottage to also celebrate my father in laws 80th birthday so I know I will have lots of great photo opportunities! How are you going to be spending your day??

I loved working with the Southern Ridge word pieces. I wanted the wood grain to show through so I simply stained the wood with Distress stain. I also wanted the Canada 150 to show up a bit more on the heart so I started by adding stain where I could with the applicator. Then to get closer to the word I made a small puddle of stain on my craft mat and used a paint brush to brush the stain onto the wood....worked like a charm! I repeated the process with the Walnut Stain over the word.

I used a chipboard heart from the Wild Heart package for the top corner. I added adhesive to the front of the heart and added paper on top. I rough cut around the edges and then used sand paper to remove the excess paper. And then of course added some ink!

You Can Count on Me Scrapbook Layout with Charlene Byrd

Charlene here! Thank you for joining me today! I hope you’ve been enjoying the design team’s creations with the Zen Dragonfly and getting lots of inspiration from us.

For my take on the Zen Dragonfly I used Perfect Pearl Powders. With my black and white photo and the neutral pallet of colours on my layout I wanted to add a bit of shimmer to make the dragonfly pop.

I added some Versa mark ink on top of my dragonfly and then used a paint brush to brush on different colours of Perfect Pearls Powder until I created the desired look I was hoping for. To complete my dragonfly I added some pearls to the body. Because of the powder I had to use some Glossy Accents to adhere the pearls. (The glue dot on the back of the pearl didn’t stick; it just took off the powder)

For the Delicate Lace Border I swiped Pumice Stone Distress ink over the top to add some colour and then added some pearls.
