Amazing Weekend Scrapbook Layout with Charlene Byrd

Charlene here! Thanks for joining me today! Today I have a great layout that can easily be created with a few stamps, a little scrap paper and of course Southern Ridge Trading Company chipboard!

To begin creating, I simply used Black Soot Distress Stain to colour the Fine Faced Clock. I Then cut it into 2 pieces and attached it over some stamping.

I liked the natural look of the chipboard as it as it matched my paper so I added some stamping on the top and inked the edges.

I used Black Soot Distress Stain to randomly add some colour to the honeycomb pattern.

Hockey Scrapbook Layout with Charlene Byrd

Hello everyone, Charlene here!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season! Thanks for joining me today on the blog! Today’s layout celebrates Canada’s favourite sport, HOCKEY! People ask me all the time which team I cheer for. I tell them I don’t really watch NHL hockey, I cheer for Pittsburgh only because it’s my son’s favourite team but I am a HUGE Rangers fan! Last year I was so fortunate to have a hockey mom who was an amazing photographer, she had her camera on sports mode at every game! I have so many amazing pictures of Remington from that year; I really miss her this year!

I was so excited to see that Southern Ridge had a goalie in their hockey collection! Yay!! To create the word Hockey, I first cut off the hockey player (as it was part of the word) so I could add the goalie silhouette. I stained it with Black Soot Distress stain and then added black UTEE to the top. I simply stained the goalie silhouette with black stain and added foam squares behind it to make it pop up a bit.

I added Tim Holtz Black Soot Distress Stain to the star chipboard and again added black UTEE over it. I also added blue pattern paper behind the star to make it stand out a bit more. I had a small piece of the fish net chipboard lying around; it reminded me of the hockey net so it was a perfect match for the layout.

Happy Holidays Scrapbook Layout with Charlene Byrd

Hello everyone,

Thanks for joining me today! Life is so good when it’s shared with family. Every year my husband and youngest son Remington (who is a 2nd year midget goalie) make a rink in our back yard. Remington loves being out there; he spends so much time shovelling it, maintaining it and flooding it and I just love when everyone comes over to our ‘community rink’ to skate. As soon as we get those little boys on skates we’ll have enough players to actually play a game! Haha!

I simply stained the Victoria Lace Frame and the Intersecting Circles with Walnut Distress Stain.

I was going to add some UTEE to the Happy Holiday words but after I stained them with Walnut Distress Stain I really liked how the wood grain showed through.

For the stars I started by misting them with Heidi Swap Color Shine. It was a bit to shimmering for my liking so I lightly sanded the top of them taking away the sheen. But then I found them too bright so that’s when I decided to add a little bit of glitter with Walnut Distress Stickles. I was really happy with the final look.

That’s what I love about chipboard….keep playing until your happy!

Altered Book with Corina Finley

Hello!

Thank you for joining me, Corina Finley, for today's blog post! This months challenge theme here on the Southern Ridge Trading Company blog is "Anything Love"! That is such a wide theme, as it could include a person, place or thing you love!

I decided to create an Altered book with a vintage feel, where I could keep pictures of loved ones, inspiration and memorabilia. I knew I wanted to stencil with texture paste. Use some chipboard embellishments with spray mists and Inka Gold products. But the rest was left up to the creative journey!

As you can see in the picture above, the red book on the bottom is an old book which I purchased at my local reuse center for .10 cents. The middle book is also a book I purchase at the reuse center but applied a coat of white gesso to the cover, spine and back cover. The top is my completed altered book!

I covered my entire book with White Gesso and let dry completely. I then painted on a very thin coat of antique white crackle texture to the surface and allowed that to completely dry.  I placed my favourite script stencil on top of the front cover and applied a thin layer of texture paste. Once again, I allowed it to completely dry.

I choose a few different spray colours in browns, blues and copper. By opening the book in the middle and placing it upside down on my craft mat it allowed me to be able to sprayed the cover, spine and back cover at the same time. This time, I used my heat gun to speed up the drying time!

Once complete and dry, I added my detailed chipboard embellishments to the cover and adhered them with Glossy Accents. I added a photo to the wonderful Mini Scroll Frame - the picture was part of a collage 12x12 patter paper I purchase some time ago.

I then painted all the chipboard embellishments with Black Gesso. I choose a few colours of Inka Gold in copper, brown, blues, and grey. I used my finger to apply each colour to the top - keeping it light for a blended look. I then added a thin layer of clear Pico Embellisher to the top of the Mini Scroll Frame for some shine.
