Dream Card with Katelyn Grosart

Hey Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. Today, I'm sharing with you my Dream Card perfect to add to give to that someone in your life who needs an extra special note to brighten their day. To create my card, I've used a variety of our popular frames, foliage and word chipboard pieces. You'll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my Dream Card at home.

To start, you'll need the Leafy Frame. Apply two coats of Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic Paint - Black to the frame.

Next you'll need one of the Butterflies from the Butterfly Swirl Combo. Note: My butterfly is slightly different and no longer in stock, so that is why you'll need to choose one from the Butterfly Swirl Combo. Apply two coats of Impasto Paint - Crimson to the butterfly.

Take out both Abstract Corner from the package. Apply Emboss It Ink to each corner. Sprinkle Molten Dimensions - White Wonder Embossing Powder over the entire surface of each corner. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Next, you'll need the Dream Fun Word. Apply Emboss It Ink to the word. Sprinkle Molten Dimensions - White Wonder Embossing Powder over the entire surface of the word. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

From the Pussy Willows, cut four pieces off the branches. Apply two coats of Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic Paint - Evergreen to the pussy willow pieces.

From the Fern Leaf Foliage package, you'll need two of them. Apply two coats of Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic Paint - Evergreen to the fern pieces. Once the paint has dried, rub Pine Needles Distress Crayon along the top of the ferns.

You'll need six magenta roses, four turquoise roses, one large white rose and five white roses.

Choose two pieces of patterned paper from Nicole Wright Designs - Media Assemblage package. Die cut a 4" stitched rectangle out of one of the papers. Die cut a 4 1/2" stitched rectangle out of the other patterned paper. Distress the edges of the rectangles. Ink the edges of the rectangles using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the 4" stitched rectangle to the 4 1/2" stitched rectangle. Adhere one of the corners to the bottom right corner of the 4" rectangle. Adhere the other corner to the top left corner of the 4" rectangle.

Adhere the leafy frame overtop of the corners on the 4" rectangle. Adhere two of the pussy willow pieces to the top left corner of the leafy frame. Adhere the other two pussy willow pieces to the bottom right corner of the leafy frame.

Foam square the butterfly to the middle of the 4" rectangle. Adhere the Dream word to the middle of the butterfly.

Adhere the two fern pieces to the bottom portion of the Dream word.

In the middle of the ferns, adhere one white rose, two magenta roses and two turquoise roses.

In the bottom right corner of the leafy frame, adhere three white roses, two magenta roses and two turquoise roses. In the top left corner of the leafy frame, adhere three white roses, two magenta roses and two turquoise roses.

To finish the card, cut a cardbase out of white cardstock that measures 5 3/4" x 9", score at 4 1/2". Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Here are a few closeup photos of the finished card.

Enjoy the Ride Card with Deb Riddell

Hello and thanks so much for stopping by today.  Deb here again to share another project for our July challenge theme of Anything Summer.  For today’s project, I made a card using Southern Ridge Trading Company’s Leafy Frame and Retro Bike chipboard pieces.  Riding your bike along a path lined with flowers and green leaves certainly says summer to me!

I started out with a piece of scrapbook paper from my stash that had some glittered flowers and swirls on it (sorry but I don’t know what paper line it is from, it was a gift from a blogging friend).  I gently tattered and inked the edges of the paper with Vintage Photo Distress ink and mounted it onto a white card blank.

I sprayed the Retro Bike with Heidi Swapp White Colour Shine spray and then did a couple of small spritzes with Salty Ocean Distress spray.  While it was still wet I sprayed again with Picket Fence Distress spray and quickly heat dried so that just a bit of the blue peeked through here and there.

The Leafy Frame was coloured with Mowed Lawn Distress ink and while the ink was still wet, I sprinkled it with clear embossing powder and heat set it.  The frame was then painted with Ranger Glue ‘n Seal and sprinkled with Mowed Lawn Distress Glitter and set aside to dry.

Three tiny Maya Road metal roses were coloured with Stonewash alcohol ink.

Two Jenni B paper flowers were sprayed with Salty Ocean Distress spray and then sprayed again with Heidi Swapp White Colour Shine spray.  I just wiped the spray off of the pearl centers while the sprays were still wet and gently dried the flowers with my heat gun.

And then the card was assembled.  I adhered the Leafy Frame to the scrapbook paper and then placed the Retro Bike inside the frame along the bottom edge.

The blue paper flowers were adhered to the corners of the frame and I added some small leaves that I die cut with the Tiny Tattered Florals leaf die from cardstock coloured with various shades of green Distress inks.

I stamped the sentiment (from a Studio G clear stamp set #VC0053) with Jet Black Archival ink and clear embossed it.

And finally I added the Maya Road metal roses into the basket on the Retro Bike along with some more Tiny Tattered Florals leaves.

This card would be suitable for birthdays or even for a graduation or congratulations on a new job.

You could also incorporate it into a scrapbook layout with pictures of your families bike riding adventures this summer!

Mom Canvas by Katelyn Grosart

Katelyn here, I'm back on the blog today featuring a canvas for my mom. Our Monthly challenge theme this month is anything feminine, so in light of Mother's Day being this month, I decided to create a canvas for my mom as I can't think of a better woman to celebrate who's in my life. Even though Mother's Day was on Sunday, why not celebrate your mom for the whole month of May!  Sit back, relax and read all about how I created my "Mom" canvas.

To start, you will need a 9"x12" canvas, I found mine at the dollar store. Once your canvas is unwrapped, apply Antique Linen Distress Paint 1/4" around the entire top of the canvas as well as completely covering all four sides.  You will only need 1 coat of paint. Set canvas aside to dry.

After the canvas has been painted, its time to move on to the chipboard pieces. The first chipboard piece you will work with is the Leafy Frame.  You will need to cut the two corners apart where there isn't the leafy pieces and then trim off the excess plain chipboard so that all you are left with is the leafy part of the frame. You will need both corners. Once the corners are cut, apply two coats of Antique Linen Distress Paint on them. Set the corners aside to dry.

Now that the Leafy Frame is done, it's time to move on to the Vintage Clock. The vintage clock will get a layer of Celestial Copper Ink from Tsukineko's Delicata line. This ink takes a bit of time to dry, so you can heat it with your heat tool or just set it aside to dry.

Now that the Vintage Clock is done, it's time to work on the Mother Word. For the mother word, you will want to apply a layer of Celestial Copper Delicata over the entire word. Once the entire word is covered with ink, sprinkle Burnt Copper Leaves embossing powder over top of the entire word, tap off excess and emboss with a heat tool.  Because the Delicata is a slow drying ink, the embossing powder is able to stick to it.

The last chipboard piece you need to cover is the key. The key will get a layer of Jet Black Staz On. Set aside to dry.

After the chipboard pieces are all decorated, you'll want to cut pieces of paper from Graphic 45's "Ladies Diary" Deluxe Collectors Edition pack to fit your canvas. The fussy cut images also come from the same set of papers. Before adhering the papers down, edge distress and ink the edges with Ground Espresso Distress Ink. After everything is adhered, add Glossy Accents to the flowers in the bottom left and top right hand corners.
