Grungy Passport Mini Album with Karen Bearse

First of all I would like to thank Southern Ridge Trading Co. for letting me be a part of their team. I am excited to play with these awesome chippies!

For my first project I made one of my favourite things, a mini album. Using the Eileen Hull Passport die from Sizzix with mat board as my base seemed a good place to start. Have you ever had an idea that was fairly simple but as you started to create inspiration took over? I love when that happens, only it makes for a tough tutorial! I will try and keep the steps simple. 

Cut 2 covers and a spine from white mat board. I placed my chippies onto the cover of my album for 

placement (list of supplies at end). After running my covers through an embossing folder it was time to add colour.

Spritz the outside pieces with various blue Glimmer Mists. When mist is dry, use a hard foam piece with just a bit of white acrylic paint. Carefully swipe across hitting just the high emboss points. Repeat until emboss pattern shows nicely. If you streak too much paint, just wipe quickly with a baby wipe to fix. Dry.

Now for the magic! Dab entire cover with Emboss It, or Embossing Ink, and UTEE (ultra thick embossing powder). Use a heat gun until UTEE melts completely. Let cool. Do 2 coats for the outside covers and 1 coat for the inside. 

For the spine I stamped with Distress ink & heat embossed with UTEE. Once that was cool the spine was covered in a light coat of Glimmer Glam, so the stamped image would show through. One of the things that is great about Glam (other than the glitter) is it acts like a glaze, so if I sprinkle copper embossing powder in random spots, it sticks. Once heat set it creates a very cool, shiny, looking spine. For the chippie gears, I spritzed with Chalkboard and sprinkled some emboss powder then heat set. The bird was painted with Glam and the hinges with Glam & sprinkled with a bit of copper emboss & heat set. Time to assemble.   If you want your piece to look like a book adhere spine to the outside of the front & back covers. To show more of the cover, adhere spine on the inside. Use a strong glue. 

Now for the signatures. One of the reason I love this book is it is so simple to put together. I made 3 

signatures (sections) layering 4 pieces of paper in each.

I did sew through the center of each signature but you don’t have to. It was just a matter of pulling wax thread through the spine, adding some beads and tying off the thread inside the middle section of each signature.

The final touch was to add a ribbon to hold the book closed using a metal gear. This book would be great as a mini art journal, scrap book, travel book… endless possibilities!

Simply Gorgeous Layout with Sherry Mendoza

I love chipboard and I love to create my own pocket scrapbooking pages. On these cards I have used the Southern Ridge Trading Company chipboard words which are perfect for small titles. I left one of them plain and the other two I coloured using embossing powder. 

To colour using embossing powder I would recommend you do the process of dipping the word in versa mark and then the powder, heat & melt the powder and then repeat the process once to get a great coverage.

Love Layout With Corina Finley

Thank you to everyone who participated in last month's monthly challenge. The response was great and we loved seeing all of your creations. Happy 1st of March Everyone!

Corina here, to host the blog for you today. I have created a page layout using paper from BoBunny and the wonderful detailed Southern Ridge Chipboard.

On this layout, I have used four different Southern Ridge chipboard pieces. For the Clock, I kept it simple and added Black Soot Distress Paint to the top and let dry. For the other three, I altered the chipboard pieces by using distress paint as a base colour and adding embossing powder when it is still a little wet. The embossing powder sticks only in some spots giving it a non perfect coverage. I heat set my type & colour of choice embossing powder and the result is a shabby/worn look.

The BoBunny Line that I have used is called Juliet. I have used the paper named Juliet for the base and have cut out and sewn number pieces from the Abundance sheet to the base. I used black corrugated cardstock and the back side (blue) of the Full House sheet to matte my photo. I added a stitched border to the photo matte. The Cards from the Full House sheet and flowers from the Milan sheet were fussy cut and tucked in to create layers.

Love Layout

Katelyn here, I'm back on the blog today featuring a Mixed Media  "Love"  Scrapbook Layout. With our Monthly Challenge being all about love, it gave me the perfect amount of inspiration for my piece. Have you joined in in our Monthly Challenge yet? If not, you still have two days to add your link to your piece. To view all the details about the Monthly Challenge and how to enter, head over here. With that, I'm excited to share my "Love" Scrapbook Layout and how I created it, so that you can create it at home.

To start my layout, I applied a thin layer of heavy white Gesso randomly in the middle of my patterned paper. Once the Gesso dried, I painted a layer of Dark Velvet and Vintage Rose Acrylic Paint over top of the Gesso.

After both layers of paint had dried, it was time to add some hearts. To do that, I placed my stencil in the middle right of the page, and applied texture paste through two rows of the heart stencil by Tim Holtz. I repeated the same step with the stencil in the middle top left of the page. Once the texture paste hearts had dried, then came the fun part of spritzing my entire page. I used Ginger Coral, Vintage Coal, Pressed Petal and Perfect Pearls Mist to cover the middle, texture paste hearts and parts around the painted middle of the page.

The spritzing will take a while to dry, so I would leave it for at least 2 hours before moving on. Once the spritzing is dry, I used my chicken wire stamp and applied Black Archival Ink to it and slightly stamped over top of the bottom right hand row of hearts and then right over the top of the two top rows of  hearts. 

I wanted to liven up my Rectangle Scroll Frame so I covered it in a layer of the white Gesso to seal the chipboard. Once the Gesso was dry, I applied two layers of the Dark Velvet Acrylic Paint. Once those two layers of paint dried, I added a layer of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint over the entire frame. After the crackle paint had dried, I ran my Black Soot Distress Ink overtop of the entire frame. Before the ink dried, I took a piece of paper towel and buffed the ink into the crackled parts.

The next piece I wanted to liven up was the Love Word  and a heart so I covered them booth in a layer of the white Gesso to seal the chipboard. Once the Gesso was dry, I applied two layers of the Vintage Rose Acrylic Paint. Once those two layers of paint had dried, I added a layer of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint over the entire heart and love word. After the crackle paint dried, I ran my Black Soot Distress Ink overtop of the entire heart and love word. Before the ink dried, I took a piece of paper towel and buffed the ink into the crackled parts on both pieces. 

For the Heart Scramble background, I sprayed it with two coats of Vintage Coal Colour Bloom. 

The last element I created to finish my layout was embossing the tips of my large flowers and medium flower with Iridescent Shimmer Embossing Powder. 

Some finishing touches for my layout included adding a variety of smaller black and white flowers around the larger pink and purple flowers.

Coffee Frame with Corina Finley

Thank you for joining me, Corina, for today's post. I have created a Winter Coffee Frame as a gift for a fellow coffee loving friend. I have left the mattes empty so she can add her favourite pictures.

I started out using a Kaisercraft Beyond the Page - Nine Frame Photo Display and painted it with Java Bean brown acrylic paint and sanded the edges. I added pattern paper to back each of the spaces. I cut pieces from the pattern paper to embellish each space, used a die from the Tim Holtz Holiday Greens collection and a variety of Southern Ridge embellishments.

Here are a few close ups of some of the Southern Ridge embellishment that I used:

The largest cup from the Paper Coffee Cup Combo. I painted with Antique Linen Distress Paint and used Vintage Photo ink and a Sakura Clear Stars pen to highlight. Added a sleeve created using decorative twine, pattern paper, cardstock and a miniature chipboard heart.

Both the Coffee Sign and Coffee House Sign are wooden and from the Coffee Grinder Set. To highlight, I used a Sakura Clear Star and a dark brown pencil crayon.
