Joy Card with Pam Bray

Hi Southern Ridge Trading Company Fans!!! Pam here today sharing my love of Southern Ridge Trading Company chipboard embellishments along with a few of our other favourite Canadian companies!!!  I am super excited to join the Southern Ridge Trading Company Design Team as a guest designer!!!

Apply pattern paper to top of 5 1/2" square Kraft Card base. Die cut doilies from pattern paper; adhere to top of card base.

Apply adhesive to chipboard pieces using your Xyron Disposable Sticker Maker or use your favourite adhesive.

Add Chunky Rust to top of prepared adhesive chipboard; heat set. Adhere to top of card front.

Fussy cut berry leaves from pattern paper; adhere to top of card base. 

Emboss small leaves with embossing powder. Add to front of card base.

Add "Joy" Ephemera to front of card. 

Add small Ephemera truck to top of card with pop dots.

Die cut flowers from pattern paper; adhere flowers together. Add to front of card with twine bow. Add black gemstones. 

Finish card with a fun flair button and a fussy cut berry leave.

Beach Canvas with Guest Designer Cathy Potosky

Hi everyone, Cathy here doing a guest post at Southern Ridge Trading Company! I created a piece for CHA using some of my favourite things and they include a number of chipboard and wood pieces from Southern Ridge. I love the designs, so intricate and they take colour and other mediums so well. You can make any piece fit any project and colour scheme you want and that make these chipboard pieces a must have!

I love the beach, that is no secret, and I love to emboss! So I created this mixed media beach piece to remind myself how nice it will be in a few months.

I knew I needed to use the Chairs and Umbrella piece, it is one of my favourites. I embossed it in several different colours and it shows all the detail in the chipboard. So intricate.

I then used the starfish from the Mini Ocean Set and the shell and crab from the Ocean Mix 1 and embossed them. 

And one of my absolute favourites, that I kind of hoarded because I love them as is, are the Wooden Sand Dollars.

The background was done with some old paper from my stash, and then some texture paste shells from a stencil and I added some shimmer for a little pop. The palm tree was from my TH Die set and fit just right behind my chairs.

Winter Cards with Guest Designer Kim Evans

2017 is here...

 and I am working on posts like crazy. This one is for the amazing Canadian shop Southern Ridge Trading Co. The new challenge is up and its all about winter. 

I made a couple of cards this season using a couple of my favourite chipboard pieces. The first of my faves is the Small Snowflake Wreath.

I quickly painted them up with some Picket fence paint dabber by Ranger and Tim Holtz.

Then I dumped the Fractured Ice embossing powder by Emerald Creek onto it. I heated one partially to create ice crystals. It's an amazing effect and the chipboard really holds the half melted powders well. 

To others, I went for the full melt giving them the perfect glassy glacier ice look.

Here's a shot of the 3 stages all were perfect for any card.

Then I quickly added paste to snowflake stencils with my finger so i could control which snowflakes received the paste. Adding a little bit of the Soft Fallen Snow embossing powder, Also by Emerald Creek, and heating them made them puff up perfectly. (you seriously have to try this powder and technique)

Adding some crinkle ribbon and a charm finished it off perfectly

The Second chipboard piece I am in LOVE with is the Retro TV

I grabbed some Candy Orange embossing powder, and covered the body of the TV

Don't miss the edges and for the best result use the Ranger Emboss It Dabber (SRTC also carries this by special request).

Then I used  a block felt to colour the cardstock underneath and the Charred Gold embossing powder (not online, but SRTC does carry it, just email about it), to create the knob buttons and cover the legs.

And Charred gold to the antenna...

and randomly dry sprinkled over the patterned cardstock and word tag and then heated from under neath. (no ink was needed)

I had printed my favourite scene from the Rudolf Christmas Movie, black and whited it and dropped the greys and then coloured up the characters using my Tombow Markers (coming soon to SRTC for a limited time).

My mind is reeling with ideas for this TV and it is a must have.

Fly Beautiful Butterfly with Guest Blogger Kim Evans

We are excited to welcome our second guest blogger this month, Kim Evans, owner of Emerald Creek Craft Supplies.  Kim has created a beautiful card for you today using a variety of different chipboard pieces. Sit back and relax with a cup of coffee and enjoy reading about how Kim created her card.

A while back I met an awesome lady, Karen Beaupre, owner of Southern Ridge Trading Co. Her chipboard and wood die cuts were amazing. The intricacies & details were absolutely divine.

When an opportunity came to guest design for her I was thrilled. The assignment - 'Anything Feminine' - piece of cake!

ha Ha HA!? I was so frustrated by my project and trying to narrow down what should go on it and what colour combos. I kept adding too many pieces NS did not have a flow but then, my sister routed through my bag, grabbed a random paper cutoff and Sizzix letter die, and I was off. When I was done, I carried the project with me for a day because I wasn't in love with it yet. I looked at it in different light, got people's reactions, and then took it apart.

I took my favorite parts and starting layering, then after stepping back, swearing and learning to breathe, my brain finally kicked in. Removal of one clock piece and replacing it with an Emerald Creek Butterfly, stamped and fussy cut several times and i finally had the completed project.

So here are the steps:

First) I grabbed the Mini Set 4 Gothic Stencil and inked it with Tim Holtz/Ranger Ground Espresso ink pad then placed it "dirty" on my cardstock.  I squeezed the texture paste onto my pallet knife and began to spread across the stencil. As I spread the paste around, the ink was picked up and started to marble through the paste, giving the perfect background.

Second) Using the largest Dress chipboard I painted with Picket and fence and Wilted Violet paints (Tim Holtz/Ranger), then Embossed with iridescent shimmer on the skirt, clear on the bodice and fallen snow on the bottom ruffle. then inked the fallen snow with the violet mini ink.

Third) spray stained the butterfly with Silver and Wilted Violet Spray Stain (Tim Holtz/Ranger)

Fourth) Embossed the square frame with Verdi Gris embossing powder and inked with Espresso Alcohol Ink for a few second to dull down the green.

Fifth) Layered the papers using the pasted piece, the pink random printed card stock and a bunch of Core'dinations distress sheets. I then placed everything so I knew where to put the frame.

Sixth) I mixed up Ice resin placed the Shoe Charms in the frame, poured the ready resin over and let set for a few hours. then placed the butterfly chipboard to the top of the shoe straps.

Seventh) while everything dried I started pulling charms and paper flowers. then I grabbed the eighties dried flowers, something was still missing, perhaps a bit of sparkle, and I LOVE the Ice Resin German Glasses, but how to use them? A bit of smeared glue and then sprinkle excessively. AWESOME!

Eight) Cut out the letters F L Y and smear into the spray stain overspray from the chipboard butterfly. Edge the letters with the Wilted violet Marker, add more charms, ribbon on the dress and to tie the charms to the top

Ninth) Coat the mini fussy cut butterflies in Tombow glue and dip into the German Glass, bend up wings and glue over shadow stamped butterflies.

And we are DONE!
