Hello and Welcome to Southern Ridge Trading Co.  Ava here today to share a mixed media cover that I created for my sister who has a cottage on a tiny lake called “Otter Lake”.

How cute is this little otter stamp by Unity Stamp Co. ? Here is the link to Unity.

Well lets dive in, as an otter would do along a lake shore and play with all of these wonderful pieces of chipboard by Southern Ridge Trading Co.

Notice the shaded sunshine on all of my elements on my studio table… This is what it’s like lakeside with nature…..so inspiring.  Played with all kinds of mixed mediums for this special layout page.  Once I was happy with my design, it was stencil and modeling paste time.

The fishnet stencil has been retired, so your alternative is a wonderful Fibers Stencil.  I believe you will see lots of designs with  this fibers stencil.. Both stencils the feel of fishing nets.

After drying the modeling paste overnight I started to assemble and adhere all the mixed media elements with gel medium by DecoArt.  Allow this to dry by using a heat tool and letting it rest for a bit.  Then I got out my Tattered Angels mist and gave the page a couple of layers of mist.

The texture on this album page is wonderful. The chipboard elements take you lakeside for sure.  

All of nature’s creatures live in harmony on this layout.

Can you hear this happy otter playing with his family along the lakeshore?  I sure can.

Happy New Year Card with Ava Gavloski

Hello, Ava here wishing everyone a Happy New Year!  All the best in 2017!

I have a very Aged Vintage Card to share with you from a past time era.  

The old wooden / steel blade type of sleigh.

As you can see the sleigh is weathered, crackled and reflects the aged tones

from many winters of use on those hills of fun.

To get the aged look, paint the sleigh with a vintage antique white acrylic paint from DecoArt Paint.  Two coats should do it.  

Apply a coat of Crackle medium and let the sleigh dry over night.

When you look at this sleigh it appear as if the days gone by have made the paint on the sleigh start too flaking off in the warm winter sunshine.

The yellow tones of the burlap and the faded stamped sentiment truly takes the card back to an old era.

Thailand Scrapbook Layout with Ava Gavloski

Hello, Ava here to share with you another project featuring an embellishment and stencil from Southern Ridge Trading Company.  I used the Bubble Wrap Stencil which you can find in the Stencil section of the shop.  The Dreamcatcher Corner chipboard piece can be found in the Frames, Borders and Corners section of the shop.

Capturing travel adventures is something that takes time to publish and when the essence of the memories are displayed endorphins are always returned to the beholders.

Thailand never to be forgotten

This Dreamcatcher Corner is the perfect embellishment for an adventure never to be forgotten.

Apply Silks Acrylic Glaze to the Dreamcatcher chipboard.

While this is drying time to prepare the background of the layout using the Bubblewrap Stencil.

This photo above shows you to tape down your stencil if needed or when using the Bubble wrap 6x6 stencil, you can apply the paste, lift and move around your page.

Allow to dry over night.  Then next day, apply mists and paints to your liking to get the look you are wanting.

This Dreamcatcher corner is one of my favourite chipboard pieces from Southern Ridge Trading Co.  I think everyone should pick up about 3 when you visit the store, you will really like the feel of this corner embellishment on any of your layouts.

Love Album Cover with Ava Gavloski

Ava here to welcome you to another inspirational post at  Southern Ridge Trading Co.

My son Andrew, is returning home from an 8 month contract working in Asia and as soon as I saw the Fish net/Miniature ocean set of chippies I knew this would reflect the ambience of memories.

Here are the steps to my Mixed Media composition.

Start with layering the different paper and burlap elements onto the front cover of the album.

Take the Fish Net Pattern chipboard and select a design to trim from the main template. Once I was happy with the layered design, I moved everything off the album and started prepping the elements.

Place your chipboard pieces into a misting cardboard unit and mist both the net and star fish from the mini ocean set.  I sprayed Tatter Angels glimmer mist from Canvas Corp Brands onto the chipboard pieces.  The glimmer really pop's the fine detail cuts from these chipboard pieces.

While the chipboard was drying, I sprayed Tatter Angels mist onto the front cover or my album along with a layer of co-orgated paper.  Allowing that to dry.

Time to layer all the elements onto the album using Gel Medium with a sprinkle of a mixture of shells, beads, cheese cloth and sequence's.

Once all dried, I adhered some pearl ribbon and  splashed some glimmer mist from the bottle spray tube onto the front cover.

I hope this composition inspires you to take wonderful photo's from your oceanside time and create with these fine detailed chipboard pieces.
