Fall Mixed Media Tag with Karen Jiles

Hi there,

It’s Karen sharing a Fall Mixed Media tag created with the Skeleton Leaf Stencil and Fall Leaves chipboard pieces. I loved this combination of products. The chipboard pieces were easy to coordinate with the patterned paper choices and the stencil coupled with molding paste provided some great texture. These types of tags are perfect for decorating Holiday place settings and gift giving. Take a look at how this tag came together in the tutorial below.

Step 1: Transfer leaves pattern to patterned paper using the Skeleton Leaves stencil and molding paste. Let dry. Note: I transferred the leaves to 2 pieces of patterned paper for future use. Only 1 piece was used for this project.

Step 2:. Cover manila tag with patterned papers and choose additional coordinating pattered papers to use on tag. Trim papers down to layering sizes and sand edges as needed. Distress the edges with a sanding bar.

Step 3: Adhere all paper layers together. Add corrugated board as the base layer and punch hole in tag using a Cropadile.

Step 4: Paint chipboard with gesso and let dry.  Then apply embellishment mousse to the chipboard pieces. Let dry.

Step 5: Adhere the leaves chipboard pieces, eyelet, and sentiment to the tag.

Step 6: Adhere dyed ribbon and beaded pins to the journal.
Step 7: Using a paintbrush, highlight the dyed ribbon with gesso and the tap gesso onto tag. Let dry. Continue embellishing as desired.
