Butterflies, Butterflies! with Tracy Moreau

I have been having so much fun with Chipboard! It’s a relatively NEW surface for me , so I am discovering how versatile it is! It does take paint like a dream and you can manipulate it in ways you cannot manipulate wood surfaces…. this lends itself well to all kinds of crazy things!!

Southern Ridge gave me a small 6 page book let with Ring Binders.. .. I wasn’t sure what I could do that would be unique.. so it just sat there for awhile… then it came to me.. instead of trying to make the book unique Why not just do one page at a time and see what comes together…. these are my results so far. BUTTERFLIES are the theme… and a positive message to go with them.  I am working my way through my stash of  Chipboard bits  for embellishments, paint finishes for interest and I’ll do it like I do life .. one page  at a time!

I started with decoupaging paper to the surface…. then adding a little texture ( or not… depending on my mood at the time).

I colour washed the backgrounds, sometimes using multiple colours, others just several values of the same colours to create movement and interest. Then I started layering.. first colour then texture, using texture mediums or just paper decoupaged in place. Cut outs , bits of scrap or fabric.. even just cutting out my line drawings and applying those!

I Loved adding the Flourished Die Cut , it gave the page some elevation, a bit of texture and great contrast!  Framing the simple Butterfly cut outs nicely!
A little gold paint and some antiquing gave the little panel a nice patina, adding interest!

I still have 9 pages to go… ( I am doing both sides…) It is a work in Progress but It is such fun!!

"Amazing" Scrapbook Layout with Ava Gavloski

Hello and Welcome to Southern Ridge Trading Co.  Ava here to share with you a layout that I embellished with some wonderful chipboard pieces from Southern Ridge.

Let’s start by preparing the chipboard pieces by applying a treatment of glimmer mist and embossing powder.

This is the second time that I have applied 2 different mediums onto the same chipboard to get a two toned look to a chipboard piece.  I applied gold embossing powder to the bird and painted the leaf branch with glimmer mist.  Applying 2 different mediums gives a noticeable texture to a chipboard piece.

Now let’s look closely at the chipboard details on this layout.

Vintage Love Card with Corina Finley

Thanks so much for joining me today here on the Southern Ridge blog!

I have been playing with 'new to me' products and enjoying the creative process. I had a plan to create a vintage card using the Love Chipboard Embellishment and book pages of an old copy of Romeo and Juliet.

To create my background of my card, I used white cardstock, the Heart Stencil from Southern Ridge and Ranger Texture paste. I applied a thin layer of texture paste with a plastic palette knife, removed the stencil and set the piece of cardstock aside to air dry.

I tore one page out of my old book.  I then tore that page into pieces - as you can see in the picture above.

Using a paint brush and Rangers Distress Collage Medium, I adhered and overlapped the torn page pieces to the top of the Love Chipboard.

I used Ranger Distress Spray in Vintage Photo to colour the background panel. I used paper towel to remover some of the spray from the texture paste raised hearts. I also used a glitter pen to add highlights to the raised hearts.

To create the card base, I layered a book page to a dark brown piece of cardstock. I added stitching with my sewing machine. I took the dried background panel, distressed the edges and adhered it to the top.

I added flowers, buttons, twine & lace to embellish and finish off my card!
