Garden Fairies with Deb Antonick

Karen and I are excited to share with you and welcome Deb Antonick, Tracy Moreau and Sandy Warner McTeir to our Design Team!

These three ladies are incredibly talented Decorative Painters and we are thrilled to have them join our team. Each of these ladies will be posting once a month and sharing their amazing pieces with us all. Today we have Deb Antonick kicking things off with a few wonderful pieces. Read below as Deb  shares with you her Garden Fairies project.

Welcome to my first blog post for Southern Ridge Trading Co. first off, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Deb Antonick and my passion is decorative painting. My designs can be found in several decorative painting magazines, Etsy and various online resellers in the Decorative Painting industry. I'm very excited to add this new relationship as another creative outlet.

My first design that I would like to share with you is my Garden Fairy Doors.

These started as a challenge. I received these amazing new wood surfaces in the mail and they spun around in my head for a few days until it hit me, they were doors. At least to me they were.

One of my favourite things to do with wood to create different textures for my backgrounds.

I started with 3 different stencils and some Texture paste to add texture to the frames.

I then adhered some Tim Holtz tissue to the backing.

I then designed my little fairy girls and made the dresses from scrapbook paper. I like using scrapbook paper as an inspiration for a colour palette.

I started adding some colour and playing around with some ideas..

Once I have the layout and the palette, I started to add some fun design elements and they started to come to life.

The fairy doors started to come to life and as they did, I decided they needed some fun little designs added to the dresses.

I also found some cute little door handles in my stash that I had purchased from Hobby Lobby.  They were the perfect size to finishes the doors off.
