It's Cold Outside Winter Canvas with Deb Riddell

Hello and thank you for stopping by.  Deb here today to share a canvas with you that I made for our current Winter challenge here at Southern Ridge Trading Company.  We’ve been enduring a cold snap here and I think that majorly influenced my design!

I used Southern Ridge’s Winter Clothing Set, Snowflakes 712 and Snowflakes 714 to make my canvas and I think the sentiment says it all!  I don’t have any step out photos for you this week as I was working on multiple projects at the same time in preparation for Creativation 2017 but here are a few closeups and I’ll explain how I put it together.

I started with a 5” x 7” flat artist’s canvas, painted it with gesso and then stenciled on some snowflakes through Tim Holtz’s Snowflake layering stencil with Transparent Matte texture paste.

Once the texture paste was dry, I applied Tumbled Glass Distress stain directly onto the canvas with the dauber top, not worrying about any streaking, and rubbed the stain off the transparent texture paste snowflakes so they’d pop off the background.  Some Stormy Sky Distress crayon was then rubbed around the edges to frame the canvas.

The scarf, touque (or stocking cap for those of you in the U.S.) and mittens from the Winter Clothing set were base coated with Buttermilk acrylic paint and random stripes of Antique Rose, Hauser Light Green and Antique Gold were painted on.

Some shading was added with a float of Bittersweet Chocolate and then enhanced with Walnut Stain Distress crayon around the edges of the chipboard pieces.

A simple snowflake shape was painted onto the touque and mittens with Cool White and a heart added to the center of the painted snowflake with Antique Rose.

Three snowflakes were embossed with some white sparkle embossing powder I had in my stash, I used one of the larger Snowflakes 714 and two of the smaller Snowflakes 712.

The sentiment was die cut with a Spellbinders Labels 8 die from Distress Mixed Media Heavystock that had been coloured with Tumbled Glass and Stormy Sky Distress inks.

The sentiment was hand stamped with some $1 store alphabet stamps I had in my stash and embossed with clear embossing powder.  The edges of the label were outlined with Stardust Stickles glitter glue.

And that was it, hope that you have enjoyed seeing my Winter canvas, this design could easily be used for a scrapbook layout or card as well so lots of possibilities here.
