Masculine Happy Birthday Card with Katelyn Grosart

Hey there Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. It was my Step Dad's birthday a week ago and he loves photography. So with his birthday in mind, I set out to create him a masculine photography inspired Happy Birthday Card. This card is chalked full of chipboard pieces as well as different embellishments and it can be made for any special person in your life. Grab a cup of your favourite beverage and read below as I share with you how I created my masculine Happy Birthday Card.

To start, cut a piece of patterned paper that measures 5 1/2" x 5 1/2".  Once the piece of paper has been cut, place the Brick Stencil over top of the paper. Using a palette knife, apply Black Texture Paste through the top left and bottom right of the stencil randomly. Set the piece of paper aside to dry while you work on the other elements for your card.

Cut two Honeycomb Pattern pieces that measure 2" x 3". Apply Emboss It Ink to the Honeycomb pieces. Sprinkle Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder over each Honeycomb piece. Emboss the Honeycomb pieces with your heat tool.

With the Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder still out, choose two hinges from the Nuts & Bolts and cut the hinges in half. Apply Emboss It Ink to the hinges. Sprinkle Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder over the hinges. Emboss the hinges with your heat tool.

Using the small Abstract Circle Frame, apply Emboss It Ink to the small abstract circle frame. Sprinkle Charred Gold Embossing Powder over the circle frame. Emboss the circle frame with your heat tool.

Using the small Chain Frame, apply Emboss It Ink to the small chain frame. Sprinkle Hammered Metal Embossing Powder over the chain frame. Emboss the chain frame with your heat tool.

With the Hammered Metal Embossing Powder still out, choose one med. key hole and apply Emboss It Ink to the key hole. Sprinkle Hammered Metal Embossing Powder over the key hole. Emboss the key hole with your heat tool.

Choose a Happy Birthday sentiment from the Birthday Greetings. Cut your chosen Happy Birthday sentiment out. Apply Emboss It Ink to the Happy Birthday Sentiment. Sprinkle Midnight Black Embossing Powder over the entire Happy Birthday sentiment. Emboss the Happy Birthday sentiment with your heat tool.

Take two Delicate Lace Bars out of the package. On both pieces, cut the long skinny bar off. Apply two coats of Vintage Photo Distress Stain to the Delicate Lace Bars.

Take one Drifting Feather out of the package. Apply two coats of Walnut Stain Distress Paint to the feather. Let the feather dry. After the paint has dried on the feather, apply Walnut Stain Distress Crayon to the feather. Rub the distress crayon into the edges of the feather.

Choose eight bolts from the Nuts & Bolts package. Apply two coats of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain to each bolt. Let the blots dry. After the bolts have dried, start by applying Pumice Stone Distress Crayon to each bolt. Rub the crayon in. Apply Hickory Smoke Distress Crayon to each bolt. Rub the crayon in. The last Distress Crayon you'll need to apply to the bolts is Black Soot. Rub the crayon in.

Pick three keys. Using the Black Soot Distress Crayon, apply the crayon to each key. Rub the crayon into each key to give them a more of a worn look.

Using the Black Soot Distress Crayon, apply the crayon to the pocket watch. Rub the crayon into each pocket watch to give it a worn look.

Cut one film strip piece that has 6 squares on it. Cut a second film strip piece that has 2 1/2 squares on it.

Distress the edges of the stitched circles using an edge distressor. Ink the edges of the circles using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink.

Distress the edges of the 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" patterned paper using an edge distressor. Ink the edges of the paper using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink.

Cut a 5 5/8" x 5 5/8" piece of woodgrain patterned paper. Distress the edges of the 5 5/8" x 5 5/8" patterned paper using an edge distressor. Ink the edges of the paper using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink.

Cut a 5 3/4" x 5 3/4" piece of black cardstock. Distress the edges of the 5 3/4" x 5 3/4" black cardstock using an edge distressor. Ink the edges of the paper using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink.
