Inky Fun Album Cover by Karen Bearse

Hi Chipboard fans! I hope all you Moms out there in blogland had a wonderful Mother’s Day! Karen Bearse here today with a quick project.

I made this fun album cover or art journal page, haven’t decided which yet. I took one of the pages out of the Chipboard albums as my base. The beauty of these pages is their versatility! The albums come with 9 pages so there are still plenty to complete a book.

Here is my finished cover. It is super shiny and glittery with lots of depth. I plan on using the gear piece to wrap ribbon through, as a closure, if I turn this into a cover.

Here is a quick summery of my process. Started by gluing random paper down and added modeling paste & a stencil. Instead of gesso I used paint with a dry brush and let some of the paper show through. Once that was dry I slapped on lots of Glimmer Glam and Glaze. These products love chipboard and are so easy to blend together! Once the cover was nice and dry, I hit the high points with copper paint. I found the images were getting a little lost so I hit some of the high points in the same paint I used as the base. This helped brighten my cover & made the stenciled images pop. For the bike I covered it in paint, glimmer mist, and embossing powder sprinkled randomly. The gear is embossed with multiple colours to give it a rusty look and the edges distressed in paint.

Lastly I assembled my cover adding flowers from my stash & some cute metal pieces. The quote was covered with that base paint then wiped off a bit so the words show & it has that nummy vintage look. This project took only 3 hours once the modeling paste was dry. Thanks for joining me, I hope you get some inky time in this week!

  1. Hi Karen, trying to play catch up after taking the week to attend some personal matters, but so happy to be able to see your vintage looking album cover today! You have given this piece so much texture and grungy-ness on the background, and then topped it off so beautifully with that Penny Farthing chipboard! I agree, this will make a fabulous album cover, and I'm looking forward to ssing what you will do with the other pages! Hugs!

    1. Thanks Sara, I know life is so busy and sadly "the list" continues to grow even when we have to tend to other things!
