Haunted House Mini Album

Happy Halloween! This means that it's the end of the month and there are only 10 hours left to participate in our Monthly Challenge featuring all things Fall. To find out the details of our monthly challenge and to enter your piece into it, head over HERE.  I was excited that I was able to post on Halloween as it is one of my favourite times of the year. My project is a fun Haunted House Mini Album. I will warn you now that you will want to grab a cup of coffee or tea before you continue reading.

This is just one of the mini albums available in our store, which features a fun Haunted House front.  I mixed White Linen and Black Marble Dylusions Paint together to make the paint colour for my haunted house. Once the front was dry, I repeated the same steps and painted the back. I wanted to add some texture to my haunted house so I ran it through a brick embossing folder to give it the impression of a brick facade. My haunted house was still missing something so I added the birch tree die cut. The birch tree die cut was a bit plain so I dressed it up using my Wink of Stella clear shimmering pen.

Supplies Used: SRTC - Mini Album, Dylusions Paint - White Linen & Black Marble, Brick Embossing Folder, Wink of Stella Clear Shimmering Pen and Tim Holtz Die - Birch Trees.

To finish off the side of the front of my Haunted House mini album, I die cut the word "haunted" for the side beside my brass skull charm.

Supplies Used: Tim Holtz Die - Halloween Words Script & Emerald Creek - Brass Skulls.

For Page 1, I just covered the chipboard page with patterned paper from Reminisce called "Goosebumps - Scary Night". Once I adhered the paper, I added Glossy Accents to the pumpkins and the eyes of the bats.

Supplies Used: Glossy Accents, Black Soot Distress Ink & Reminisce - Goosebumps: Scary Night

For Page 2 and 3, I used chipboard pieces out of the Happy Halloween pack, which you can find here. I covered the ghost in White Linen Dylusions paint and I covered the bat in Black Marble Dylusions paint.  To get the effect I did on my spider webs, I blended Black Soot Distress Ink over top of both cob webs and then embossed them with Iridescent embossing powder. To add some detail to the black photo mats, I used the Tim Holtz Cobwebs embossing folder.

Page 2 Supplies Used: SRTC - Happy Halloween, Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Black Soot, Dylusions Paint - White Linen, Iridescent embossing powder, Reminisce Halloween - Scary Jack, Bazzill Cardstock - Orange & Black & Tim Holtz Embossing Folder - Cobwebs.

On Page 4 I adhered the Reminisce paper called "Goosebumps -  Scary Night" to the chipboard page. Once adhered I added Glossy Accents to the pumpkin faces. For page 5 I cut apart the Happy Halloween word found, here, for the top and bottom of my photo mat. Once the Happy Halloween word was cut apart I blended Tim Holtz Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink over top of both chipboard pieces.

For page 6 I painted the bat from the happy halloween pack in Black Marble Dylusions paint. I then cut out a cob web from the delicate web die from Memory Box. To add some interest to my cob web I added some sparkle with my Wink of Stella Clear Shimmering pen. For Page 7 I painted the ghost from the happy halloween chipboard piece in White Linen Dylusions paint. I repeated the same step with the cob web that I did on page 6. To add some detail to the black photo mats on both pages, I used the Tim Holtz Cobwebs embossing folder.

Page 6 Supplies Used: SRTC - Happy Halloween, Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Black Soot, Bazzill Cardstock - Orange & Black, Reminisce Halloween paper - Creepy, Wink of Stella - Clear Shimmer, Dylusions Paint - Black Marble, Tim Holtz Embossing Folder - Cobwebs & Memory Box Die - Delicate Web.

On page 8 I blended Black Soot Distress ink over top of the witch from the happy halloween pack. The witch needed some extra detail so I gave her some shimmer using the Wink of Stella Clear Shimmering pen. For page 9 I  adhered the Remininsce paper called "Goosebumps - Happy Halloween", once it was adhered, I added Glossy Accents to the windows of the haunted house. Once again I blended Black Soot Distress ink over top of the witch from the happy halloween pack and added some shimmer with the Wink of Stella Clear Shimmering pen.

Boooooo!

Hello, welcome to one of my favorite times of the year, Halloween!  I love all the ghouls, goblins and all things spooooookkkkyyyyy!  So I have chosen to do a canvas of a spooky halloween scene.  All the chipboard is from Southern Ridge Trading Co.  If you play along at the SRTC Blog Challenge you could win a $20 shopping spree at the Southern Ridge Trading Co shop!  It is the perfect challenge,  Fall!  Hope you play along for a chance to win some wonderful product.

Soooooo here is the project I did, started with a wooden frame, painted it with white gesso then turned it around to make a shadow box type frame for my scene.  Here is my layout before I got started.

I used black acrylic paint first and covered the frame then added Dylusions paint by Ranger with my fingers and just smeared it.   The colours I used were crushed grape, lemon zest, black marble, squeezed orange and white linen.  Then I added Old Silver Inka Gold to give it a distressed look.

I added Dylusions White Linen paint to the spider web and squeezed orange to the fence.  I added Black Sand Texture Paste from Finnabair, Art Extra Vagance, for the ground, black marble Dylusions paint to the trees and DecoArt-Snow Tex to the house.

I used lemon zest Dylusions paints for the moon and added glass and metal beads to the center.

I filled the littles bottles with fake blood and Dylusions cut grass paint and water for my blood and gooooo!  I added the little skull and bones I purchased from the dollar store.  The little bottles themselves are from Tim Holtz.  I used pop up springs for cards that I purchased from Close to My Heart, so the bat would pop about.  The bat and the ghosts are painted with Dylusions black marble and white linen paints.  The Keep out take is from the Dollar store.

I added the black cloth mesh, flours and orange embellies from my stash.

Finally I added cut grass and squeezed orange Dylusions paint on the sentiment and cut grass on the  house.  Voila, my spooky scene, hope you enjoy and thanx for stopping by.  See you next time.

You can use them together or separate. I choose to use them together to give more dimension and a layered look to my card. I wanted to keep this card more simple to show how the chipboard elements take a card to the next level. The Floral Wreath is the star of the card!

I hope you will play along in our monthly Southern Ridge Trading Co. Challenge. You could win a $20 shopping spree at the Southern Ridge Trading Co. online store.

October Challenge - Happy Fall Ya'll!

Oh Autumn... the prettiest time of the year! The sight of all the leaves turning colour never ceases to amaze me! As much as I LOVE SUMMER, fall does make me happy with the crunchiness of the leaves, the smells & the look of it all!

Using Karen's piece "Maple Branch" (item number & link to be added when available) I made this fall themed card to show my gratitude to a family member.

I sprayed the branch with a mixture of sprays, including orange, brown & green to get a look more consistent with autumn leaves. I love how the leaves picked up the gold tinted sparkles in the sprays as well. As a final touch, I distressed the edges of the leaves with a chalk ink pad.

I added a sentiment & some punched maple & oak leaves to keep the title tied in with the card. Finished it all off with a little row of bling on the sentiment ticket and I was done!

Now it's your turn to show us what you can do with the Fall theme... We're looking forward to your entries!

Cheers! Melissa :)

My Pride and Joy.

My Pride and Joy

Hi Everyone
Hope you had a great weekend. A month ago I made a page for my blog called Furry Baby. I mentioned that I only used some of the chipboard that came in the one set and that  I would create another page with the frame that I didn't use. That was my inspiration for this page. I don't often use the chipboard in its raw form but for this page I decided not to color my frame and use it in its natural color.

 LRGFR -573

I really prefer to make double pages and very rarely make single pages. For me it creates a better flow in my album and tells a better story than having two different events side by side in your album.

I added my heading on bone shaped tags which I decorated with ribbon and string.

Hope you enjoyed my page. Feel free to leave me a comment and if you have any special requests on techniques with chipboard or themes for scrapbook pages Don't hesitate to contact me, I would love to hear from you.

Enjoy your week and Happy Scrapping.

Happy Birthday Card with Corina Finley

Hello

Thank you for joining me here today for my first blog post! My name is Corina Finley and I am the newest member of this Design Team.

A little about me: I live in British Columbia, Canada. I have a wonderful husband, two boys & two dogs. I believe due to the unbalanced ratio of female to male (I am the only female) in my household and my love for the outdoors, I tend to create in a more masculine/earthy colour palette......but I do occasionally step over to my Diva side! I am excited to have joined this Design Team and to be sharing my creations using the wonderful Chipboard shapes with you.

For this Birthday Card, I used two 'pine cones' from the Spruce Cone Set and the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Birthday Greetings Set. The 'pine cone' is inked with Gathered Twig and Vintage Photo Distress Ink with a layer of clear Irresistible Pico Embellisher on top. The Happy Birthday is coloured with a Sakura Pen in Clear Star.

I hope you will play along in our monthly Southern Ridge Trading Co. Challenge. You could win a $20 shopping spree at the Southern Ridge Trading Co. online store.

Thanks for joining me today!

Take care,
Corina Finley

Fall Canvas

Happy Friday! It's my turn back on the blog with a fun fall project. This month's challenge is all about fall and what fall has to offer. Thank you to everyone who have already participated, we can't wait to see the rest your projects. To enter and get all of the details on our Monthly Challenge head over to HERE.  This is one of my favourite monthly challenges that we've had so far and I can't wait to show you the piece I created, so here it is:

Supplies Used: SRTC - Fall Leaves & Tree, Emerald Creek - Squirrel, Tim Holtz Ideaology - Burlap Panel and Alpha Chips (Elementary), Dylusions Paint - Melted Chocolate, Tim Holtz Distress Inks - Peeled Paint, Dusty Concord, Ripe Persimmon, Gathered Twigs, and Ranger Glossy Accents.

On the Fall Leaves, with a Blending Tool I blended Ripe Persimmon, and Peeled Paint to give the leaves more of an aged look. I then added Glossy Accent dots on each of the leaves to make it look they were just rained on. For the Tree I painted it with Dylusions Paint in Melted Chocolate and then went lightly over top of it with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. I love how well the pieces turned out and how well they work together.

Here's my fall canvas with all the different pieces together.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and check out my fall canvas. Head on over here to our fantastic new website and check it out. I'm telling you now you will want it all!

Until Next Time

School page

Hi everyone. Hope you had a awesome weekend. I am catching up with my kids school albums and I thought this would be a good time to showcase how Southern Ridge chipboard words can be used in different ways.

In this page I used
                Wel - 034

as a heading. This is the feature of page.

In my second example I used the word as a subtitle. In this example the letters is not the focal point, with the emphasis being on the photos instead of the words. This is a perfect example of how versatile the chipboard products is.
Happy scrapping till next time

Melissa is sharing her fabulous fall themed project for you, to get this challenge started.

Happy 1st of October & welcome to our new monthly challenge here at the Southern Ridge Trading Company's blog! Be sure to check out all of the details on this month's challenge theme which is FALL...

For my first Design Team project this month, I used a TON of Karen's awesome chipboard to make this title page for the Halloween 12x12 Scrapbook I am in the process of making. I love themed albums; they're so fun to put together & I love reminiscing over the photo's of the kids and how they've grown over the years!

The Happy Halloween Kit, CEL-413  has lots of awesome shaped pieces in it.

To decorate the title in the kit, I blocked off the ghosts using cut up strips of post-it notes.

That way, I could spray the title orange using Smooch Spray & leave the ghosts untouched to paint white using Distress Paint. I used a Q-Tip dipped in the paint to colour the ghosts.

Once it was dry from the spray, I put the pieces on black cardstock then I used the Martha Stewart spider web border/corner punch set to make the title mat. Isn't it fun?

Using other Smooch Spray colours, I spritzed the haunted house, witch & bat. I love how they look metallic-y!

I sprayed the wooden fence MIN-350 & the grass border GAR-595 as well with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists to get the colours I wanted. Then I inked the edges of everything with a black cats eye ink pad. I layered the fence over the bottom of the house, then layered the grass border over the fence! Three lovely layers of SRTC product! :)

For the spider's web, I also used the metallic silver spray & I used glossy accents on the spider to make him pop off the patterned paper... He looks too real for me! LOL! ;)

I absolutely love how this page turned out! I hope you enjoyed looking at it & seeing how I use the chipboard that Karen created for my project!

Now you show us what you've got for this months theme FALL! Be sure to enter our challenge.

Thanks for looking! Cheers! Melissa :)
