Just Because

It's my turn back on the blog today and I hope your week has been great so far. There are only 3 more days left to participate in our Monthly Challenge featuring a Summer Theme. We want to see what you are creating with our amazing chipboard so submit your entries HERE.  Today I created a "Just Because" card for you. Here is what it looks like:

Supplies Used: SRTC - Feathers (Coming Soon) & Flowers, Bo Bunny - Garden Journal paper, Ranger - Mixed Media Cardstock; Vintage Photo Distress Ink; Distress Spritzer, Tuskineko - Memento Ink, Stampers Anonymous - Crazy Bird Stamp , Bazzill - Green Cardstock, and Seam Binding Ribbon - Cream.

I'am in love with my crazy bird stamp and all the varieties of colours you can make your birds. I coloured the Crazy Bird image I used Ranger Distress Markers in; Rusty Hinge, Spiced Marmalade, Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, and Antique Linen.

On the Feather which is coming soon to the store, I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I wanted to give the feather a natural look to blend in with the card. To tie it to the seam binding ribbon I knotted a piece of cream twine to the top and then tied the twine to the seam binding ribbon.

Here is my card again with all the elements on it:

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my card. Remember you only have three more days to participate in our Summer themed Monthly Challenge. To link up your card to our blog, click HERE

Until Next Time!

Time flies like Dandelions.... | Mixed Media Layout

...lose their blossoms'

Hi there SR Friends, i'm glad you stopped by.
This saying crossed my mind when I had both the clock and the Dandelions placed on the layout. If you blow up the dandelion, the small umbrella flying through the air. Same way those little umbrellas flying today on my layout.

For the first time I've scrapped on a sheet of kraft paper. I really like the result, what do you think?

For the background I've used a stencil from Prima Marketing | Finnabair. I've added lot's of Gesso, Medium and three different colors Inka Gold. The effect looks great, speciallsy the shimmer. Did you used Inka Gold any time?

The clock is a Piece of Chipboard (sorry, i can't find it in the store any more - maybe Karen is able to help you) from Southern Ridge, which I first brusehd with gesso. Then I dyed it with a Quick Dry Fluid Chalk by Ingvild Bolme and inked the digits with Inca Gold. The result was not my taste. I decided to apply platinum Stickles to the numbers also.

The Dandelions are a die of KesiArt - there are two different sizes - I have them for ages, but did not use them yet. I have punched it a few times and glued them slightly offset . The edges I've previously wiped slightly gray.

At last, i added some platinum stickles also ;)

I hope you'll like my Layout? :)

Thanks for stopping by. Have a nice Sunday everyone!
We'll enjoy the sun :))

Do not forget to join our super easy going Challenge this time. SUMMER just easy, ha? See you there ;)

Fishing fun

Hi Everyone. Its summer and we are going to the Sunshine coast for our yearly fishing holiday next week. To get into the spirit of the holiday I did a double layout with some photos of a previous vacation. Hope you enjoy it.

I used the wooden fish in my embellishment block to add a different texture and create a focus point.

Springing Spring?

Oh Spring, I miss you...

I love this album.
I have hoped to play with it since I first laid eyes upon it.
Ahhhh, wishes do come true.

I wanted to really show off the "picture" of the album.
However, I usually go to the acrylic paints and I'm not so comfortable with them.
Grabbing my copics, I gave it a try.
Thinking; if it doesn't work, I can cover it up with the acrylics.
Ohhhh, I was so pleasantly surprised. The copics went on wonderfully.
The color, a little more subdued; but I'm okay with that.
I LOVE how it turned out and what a complete joy to play with.

The detail in the album just blows my mind

Album 635
Copics used:
G28, YG17
R17
Butterflies: RV23, 14, V28, 15, 12
Bird: B04, R02
I've added some WOC blooms, fussy cut a couple butterflies from Maja papers
and a few items from stash.
The album comes with the rings plus additional pages; 10 including the cover.
I've added a simple layer of the blue background here to the inside of the first page.
Now it too can be used for pictures.

Born in Africa

Hi everyone, I am thrilled to share this page with you. It is about my favorite place on earth, the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

I used the circle frames from Southern Ridge to emphasize my favorite photos and to built the heading.

The chipboard was colored with a olive green ink pad chalk.

Starfish Canvas - July Challenge

Happy Wednesday! Hope your week has been fantastic and that you only have a few more days until the weekend when you can get some crafting done. It's my turn back on the blog today so I thought I would create something with our "Summer" challenge in mind, you can find all of the details HERE. Please share your summer challenge piece as we want to see them in the link attached to our July challenge post. I won't make you wait any longer to see my piece, so here it is:

I put a foundation on my canvas first of Dina Wakley White Gesso, this seals the canvas so the paint isn't wasted. Once the Gesso was dry I added a layer of Dina Wakley "Lapis" paint over the entire surface. Before the Lapis colour dried I painted over with a layer of Dina Wakley Sky & Turquoise paint. With doing that, it gives it a variation in colour for the background.

I love starfishes so when I saw that Karen had starfishes on the website, I knew I needed them. If you want to order them the number is NAT-320. I used BT5 & TB9 from the Spectrum Noir Alcohol Marker range on my starfishes. Once I was happy with how they looked I added glossy accents over top of them. If you add glossy accents to them allow them to dry for 24hours. Here is an up close picture of the starfishes:

Supplies Used: SRTC: NAT-320, Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers: BT5 & TB9, and Ranger Glossy Accents.

To complete the canvas I cut out some images from Bo Bunny's "Boardwalk" paper line which fit perfectly with my beach theme.

Supplies Used: SRTC: NAT-320, Bo Bunny: Boardwalk, Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers: BT5 & TB9, and Ranger Glossy Accents.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my canvas. Everyone at Southern Ridge can't wait to see what you create for our July challenge. As always make sure that you check out our Facebook page for more great inspiration from our Design Team members and our customers.

Until Next Time!

First Nations Graduation Ceremonies layout

Ahhh, the end of my children's school years is upon me. In a matter of four consecutive weekends, my daughter attended two proms, and two commencement ceremonies, one of which celebrated her Aboriginal heritage.

I was so happy to see that Karen has some amazing wooden pieces (WOOD) that were going to compliment my layout so well. I didn't want anything too over the top and the colours of her lasered wooden pieces are fantastic. All I did to them was add a bit more inking around the outer edges!

Thanks again for looking! I hope you've been working on the Summer Challenge & are uploading your pictures on the blog to join in the fun! Good luck to you! Cheers! Melissa :)

Happy Canada Day to all of you out there! I'm always a bit sad that we Canadian's aren't quite as patriotic as our US counterparts, but that's OK!

Not only is it Canada Day, but it's the start of our new monthly challenge here at Southern Ridge Trading Company! And this month's theme is SUMMER!! Be sure to read all the way to the end of this post so that you can get all the details on this month's challenge & how you can play along for a chance to win some amazing goodies from Karen!

On to my creations for this month... I decided to do a couple of "title tags" for layouts that I hope to do later on in the summer. It's been so long since I've made tags, that I forgot how FUN it is to make them! And I totally am in love with how they turned out... I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

On the "Our Summer Vacation 2015" tag, I used Karen's chipboard element WEL-316. I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists in three different colours, blocking off each section so I that I only sprayed what I needed in that colour. Then using my Silhouette machine, I cut out the welded word "Our" and "2015". I used patterned paper from Bo Bunny's Lemonade Stand for my tag's background. To finish the tag off, I used white distress paint to cover one of the seagulls in Karen's mixed package of sea birds, NAT-615 and tipped the wings black. I popped it up using foam tape. Then I used some fun fibers in matching colours to complete the look.

My next tag is "the Great Outdoors". I couldn't be happier with it! So much fun playing with Karen's elements NAT-247 and the size of these pieces are perfect for tag making!! I started by spraying all the pieces with Tattered Angels in Moss & Tarnished Silver for the mountain. I used my brown brush marker to colour the bear brown & then added some edging ink around all the pieces. I layered up the three sections using foam tape on the front smaller tree section & the bear section as well to give it some dimension. I used my Silhouette machine to cut out the sun & cloud shapes. I inked those edges as well then cut the title out & adhered it to the kraft cardstock. I finished this tag off with some more matching fun fibers. Now I've got the hard part down for when I'm ready to do my layouts in the fall! :)

Thanks for looking! Make sure to join us in the SUMMER challenge - we sure do love to see what you create as well! Cheers! Melissa :)
