Canvas Piece

This piece was so special for me to make.  My friend Sheri lost her sweet husband Bill a short white ago and I wanted to pay tribute to them both with a nice piece she could display for herself.  It was my first mixed media piece that I did on my own so I hope I did the picture justice.

The buckle piece is gorgeous metal from Prima.  I think I'm REALLY turning into a Prima girl.  I may have said that once before.  LOL!  And even some of the flowers on this piece are Prima too.  Wow look at me go hey?!  hee hee!

Another Prima resin piece or - oooooo that could be a MF frame.  See what happens when you throw away the packaging?  Soon I'm going to get that clip-it thingy and just leave everything so I can tell you the truth instead of guessing.  LOL!!  See my bark hearts peeking around behind the sunflower?  Those are from Live and Love Crafts and as you all know, one of my FAVORITE STORES!  The sunflower and wheat piece is from Magnolia.

A gorgeous Prima swirl starts this beautiful bouquet out and the big flower is another Prima piece.  I also had my Gesso out and Gesso'ed (is that a word? LOL) EVERYWHERE!  Oh and look!  The "Adventure" bulb is also from Prima.

So I learned how to play with stencils and molding paste.  OH MA GAWD!  FUN!  Unfortunately you have to envision how much you need without hiding so much.  LOL!  This corner is "Mini Love Post" (TCW) and Tim Holtz "Burlap" is in the lower left corner.

OK, this was cool.  I used a piece of honeycomb chipboard from Southern Ridge Trading Company and colored it using Inka Gold "Old Silver".  After I was done I added some Glossy Accents to make it look like honey.  Thanks for that Nikki!

This gorgeous piece is also from SRTC - FLO481- so painted it white and then covered it with Tim Holtz crackle paint.  You can see some touches of some gelato on it as well.

Well I think I've explained most of what I did but if I missed anything feel free to write me.  My friend received this and was over the top with happiness.  Made my day too.  Hee!

Feeling Freaky

I've always enjoyed being a little different.
Nothing over the top but I do dance to my own beat.
One of the new releases from SRTC was so me, I just had to make a card with it.

I've added one of my favorite MiC images that I've been itching to play with.

May I introduce:
Southern Ridge Trading Company: Wood = 504
and Make it Crafty: Puppeteer

I created the drips using red acrylic; dripping a small amount on tin foil then using a toothpick, swooshing out a line. reapplying after dry to build up the effect.
Then I added a touch along the edge for flow.

Tim Holtz Idea-ology Crossbone with red rhinestones added

Copics used:
skin: E000, 00, 11, 04, BV 25. R20
Hair: E15, Y38, Y09, 04, R24, 22, V05, 17, 09
Reds: R59, 27, 14
Black: W7,5,2
Green: YG 67, 07
blue: B26, 22, 24

What's your secret freaky side?

Will you Be Mine?

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and love is in the air! I got pretty excited when I got this new heart frame in my Design Team package! I even pulled out the jars of Glitter Ritz I had in my stash & got down & dirty with it! :P And those of you who know me well, know that I'm not really into the "messy" part of crafting LOL!

The base of the card is using the new line of paper from Graphic 45 called Time to Flourish. The frame FRA-496 was just calling to be glittered up! First though, I traced out the larger hearts on the frame onto a flat sheets of Sookwang so I could put it overtop the hearts later with red Glitter Ritz. I sprayed the whole thing with a spray adhesive then dumped the green Glitter Ritz over the whole thing & just knocked the excess off. Then I sealed the frame with an aerosol finishing spray. While that was drying, I used a heart punch from my collection, and punched out six hearts to also use red Glitter Ritz on to make them pop! I peeled off one side of the Sookwang & burnished the red Glitter Ritz onto the adhesive.

Once the finishing spray was dry, I peeled back the other side of the Sookwang & then covered all the green hearts with red ones. I used pop up foam to raise the frame above the sentiment and I just LOVE how it turned out! I'm pretty sure I "sparkled" green & red for the rest of the day, but hey, we can always use more sparkle in our lives right? ;)

Winter...Guest Blogger

Whose tired of winter...ME!

Hello Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Nicole here again! I wanted to share a quick card with you using the welded words.  These chipboard cuts take my distress paint pretty well.

I used my All Occasions card for a great vintage layer.

I love the Winter Welded Words!  These take my distress paints so well!

A couple of stacked Snowflakes with glitter and a silver jingle.

I LOVE the "Winter" chipboard embellishment from Southern Ridge Trading Company with the tiny snowflake.

Thank you for checking out how I use these adorable embellishments.  Watch for more posts :)

Birds in the sky .....

I have had this song, Feeling Good by Nina Simone, playing in my head for days, so thought maybe I should create something with it.

I used one of my all time favourite chipboard pieces for this card, NAT-295, one of the larger birds from the set of four. I coupled this with one of the hearts I cut off from BOR-151.
This is a mixed media background. The bird and heart are painted with various acrylic paints, clear embossed and doodled :
I love trying different techniques on the chipboard pieces and coloring them in different ways.
If I don't like the end result, I just paint over it, the chipboard stands up well to layers and saturation by various inks and paints.

Love is an Adventure Frame

Good Morning Southern Ridge Fans!

I'am excited to share my project with you today. With Valentine's Day coming up I thought it would be fun to create something Valentine's inspired. I loved using the KIT-379 frame from SRTC. So here it is:

To create the colour on the frame I used Worn Lipstick and Picket Fence Distress Paint, as well as Mushroom Adirondack Alcohol Ink. Once I was happy with the colours I sanded the top of the frame to take some of the colour away and give it more of a distressed look.

The  hearts I used on the project were HRT-474. I used Spun Sugar Distress Paint on the base of the heart first to give it a base and then I added Spun Sugar Distress Glitter and Sterling Glass Glitter.

The Love Banner is my favourite. It is BAN-498 from SRTC. I painted the banner using Walnut Stain Distress Paint and once I cut it in half and adhered it where I wanted it, I added Crackle Accents overtop of the letters and the banner strips.

On the rest of the frame I used Authentique "Crush" paper, Bo Bunny "Think Pink" Double Dot Jewels, the pink flowers are from Kaisercraft, white flowers from SRTC and Glossy Accents to highlight parts of the tray.

Hopefully you're starting to feel inspired to create for Valentine's Day. Check out the Southern Ridge Store to see other Valentine's product.

Until Next Time

Gearing Up- Guest Blogger

Are we all in a CHA hangover?

Hello Southern Ridge Trading Company fans let me start by introducing myself... I'm Nicole and my Blog is Canadian Nickel Scrap'n.  Well, I guess it's obvious, I'm a Canadian Blogger.  I live in Alberta now but I'm a BC'er from the coast in my heart.  You'll be seeing me post over the next couple of months here as a guest blogger.  I'll be combing my DT posts with SR awesome chipboard/wood cuts.

I've been blogging for a few years and I love the vintage grungy style!  I'm a HUGE Sizzix and Tim Holtz fan and I love to make a mess.  I started blogging to promote Canadian Bloggers since we can be hard to find...

Enough about me!  Crafting is way more fun.

Here's a project to inspire using Eileen Hull's Cookie Box Die.

 No cookies here.

How awesome is this wood sign!  These were made for me by the very talented people at Southern Ridge Trading Company!  They were supposed to be attached the CHA Vintage Travel projects but the turn around time was too tight.

Eroded metal technique!

Then using the SRTC Gears in metallic distress paints to layer the top!

I layered the mini jalopy a few cuts deep.

I love this die and the gears are a perfect fit!!!

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for having SRTC :)

Cuddly Ride

Ooooo today I have all kinds of things to tell you about but first I'm going to start with these gorgeous papers from Michele R Designs called "Perfect Petals".  I can see myself making more cards with this pack.

I just love these frames and frame pieces from Southern Ridge Trading Company (COR-485).  In this case, I painted it with white acrylic paint and then added some Tim Holtz distress glitter.  Looks amazing in real life.  The picture is super big so you can see the distress glitter!

Isn't this image just the freakin'  CUTEST?!!  I was so lucky to be able to play with "Cuddly Ride" from Whimsy Stamps.  Love Sylvia Zet images!!

Well that's all I have for you today!  Have a great week my friends!

It's all about Love, Love Love...

Happy New Year!!!
Nope, this little guy isn't baby New Year.
He's a mischievous cupid with the "love bug" and on the prowl.

I'm not sure if I'm still on a twinkling lights path
but I just had to glitter, glitter and more glitter.
You know how pictures don't do justice?
This is so the case, cause I need some shades...Whoa!

Ok, so down with the serious stuff.
I've used Love-508
There's so much detail, I really felt compelled to emphasize all the good stuff.

Little cupie has been colored with Polychromos pencils
I've used a combination of laying down a layer of glue and glittering, paints and embossing.
Seed pearls are added to give a little texture and the little pink hearts are stamped on
using versamark then pink embossing powder. I've used a versamark pen to go around and add the white embossing powder.

The I U letters are cut out using sizzix die, glued onto a gold texture mirror board and fussy cut around
The heart corners are actually the scraps from a punch that have been glued in place.
Stencil with red copic glitter pen create the dotted frame.
I've placed it all on a simple white background to really make it all pop.

I had a blast doing this project.
I hope to see some Valentines/Love projects from ya'll.
We've got some super awesome releases all ready for you.

Stars, stars, stars!

Happy 2015 to all you Southern Ridge Trading Company (SRTC) fans! So nice to be back after a few months break while working hard at growing my business! I'm always so honoured to be asked to help show off the amazing product that is being produced right here in Kamloops by Karen at SRTC!

I don't know about your house, but the holiday season at our house means one thing -- World Junior Hockey Championships!! So I thought I'd use some of Karen's very cool chipboard pieces that are hockey themed to highlight some of my son's hockey pictures from his first year playing University hockey in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Using the stars found in the Christmas section, item X-Mas 141, I spritzed all the chipboard pieces with Smooch spray to make them glitter in silver. The very cool star wreath shown in the lower left corner, is a new release & will be on the website soon.

The hockey player cut outs are found in the sport section, listed as item SPO-291. I used black smooch spray in a matte finish & put a piece of white cardstock behind the words to make it stand out. The star border X-Mas 144 was a fun way to finish off the page.

Thanks for letting me share my passion for hockey & Karen's great products! I wish you all the very best in 2015!!

Awesome Dude

This star circular frame FRA-497 (coming soon) from Southern Ridge Trading Company was perfect for this framed piece I made for my soon to be teenage son :
It can be challenging to make cards for males, to combine the right colors, images and embellishments. This star frame was so perfect to use here with the Kenny K image :
For the frame I painted it with a nougat colored acrylic paint, and added a sprinkle of pale blue and gold embossing powder, which I heat set. Then I added some crackle glaze in a few areas and lightly sponged the edge in brown ink. The background is mixed media, ink sprays and molding paste through a stencil.

I hope my son likes this, and that you found some inspiration here :)

Winter Time Tray

Happy New Year! Hopefully you've all had a fantastic holiday season and are ready to get back into your craft room and create!

When we got to choose from the new releases to design with I knew that I needed to find a way to use the snowman. He reminds me of "Olaf" off of Frozen. I found this great tray in with my craft stuff and I knew it would work perfectly to showcase this awesome snowman.

Here is the full view of my winter time tray.

Products used: 7 Gypsies tray, Carta Bella - Warm & Cozy. Snowman, sled, Snowflakes & SEA-165 from SRTC.

I'm in love with the snowflakes and SEA-165 from SRTC. I added Prima glass glitter in both pearl and sterling to the large snowflakes and love how much texture that it gives them.

The snowman is my favourite piece on the tray. On the snowman I used Distress Ink and Distress Paint. On the sled I used Distress Ink.
