Spooky Home Decor Tag with Karla Yungwirth

Hello friends, Karla back today with a spooky home décor tag project! I had so much fun digging through my stash of Halloween supplies and pairing them with a Large Chipboard Tag (coming soon!), the FrogsSpooky Halloween Word Mix and Halloween Mix 2 chipboard embellishments and the 3x3 Star Stencil and Under The Sea Bubbles Stencil from the Southern Ridge Trading Company shop!

I started off by spraying the large chipboard tag with Distress Oxide Sprays and gluing on a torn piece of paper from the Wild Whisper Halloween Night paper pack. I used the cool Under The Sea Bubbles Stencil and Antique Linen Distress Oxide Ink to sponge on cool background circles over the sprayed inks. I sprayed a lot of water and mist on this tag, and I was really impressed how awesomely it took everything!

Next, I splatted the background with some Perfect Pearls and water and then stenciled on the shiny stars using the Star Stencil in the 3x3 size (so awesome that the stencils are available in different sizes!!) and Wild Whisper Pineapple Paradise embossing powder. I sponged on some Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink around the edges for shading and added a few more stars with yellow ink on the spider web paper.

I grabbed various ephemera pieces from my stash including Tim Holtz paper dolls and Halloween diecuts and applied them on the background using Tacky Glue. A bit of Distress Oxide Ink adds some colour to the edges of the images.

I chose the fun Southern Ridge Trading Company embellishments that I wanted to use and got started on customizing them! I used Distress Oxide Ink Spray directly on the chipboard and it dried nice and flat. I used Black Soot on the witch and Rusty Hinge on the pumpkin, both from the Halloween Mix 2 chipboard set. The Fright Night words from the Spooky Halloween Word Mix set were sprayed with Candied Apple and then embossed on the edges with Wild Whisper Rugged Red embossing powder for a little extra colour and dimension. Lastly, the cute frog chipboard piece was coloured using various Distress Oxide Sprays by using the bottom of the spray nozzle (unscrewed) to drop drips of the mist onto the surface – creating a mottled look. I added some Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink to add some shadowing to the edges of both the pumpkin and frog.

I attached the chipboard pieces with tacky glue to the background tag and added some neat yarn and twine from my stash to the top of the tag.

Here are a few closeups! I had a piece of inked paper in my stash that I diecut into a full moon and clouds with Studio Katia Sky Set Border Dies and then layered the witch on top of. I love how this turned out to look like a spooky night sky!

I used Tim Holtz Chit Chat Occasions stickers to add a few more words to the background and glued on the frog to look like he’s climbing up the tag.

I love the way the Fright Night sentiment turned out with the textured red embossing powder! Very creepy! A few Halloween Night sequins from Wild Whisper finish it all off.
