Believe Mixed Media Tag with Karen Jiles

Hi there,

It’s Karen sharing a Believe Mixed Media tag that I created with the Fibers Stencil and Oval Arrow Frame. This was so much fun to create. I really enjoyed coordinating the two products together and then adding my usual staples to make this a “One of a Kind” piece. The use of the stencil enabled me to add a pop of color using an interesting and fun pattern. The chipboard design and theme was just perfect for this project.  Take a look at how this tag came together in the tutorial below.

Step 1: Lay Fiber Stencil on top of manila tag. Transfer Fiber Stencil pattern onto tag using a foam tool and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide ink.

Step 2: Stamp script onto tag using Vintage Photo distress ink. Note: I unevenly applied the script to the tag to give the tag a worn effect.

Step 3: Cut Oval Arrow Frame chipboard down to size of tag and adhere to the tag. Note: You have now created an additional opportunity to use the remaining chipboard for another project.

Step 4: Adhere flowers and leaves to the side of Oval Arrow Frame.

Step 5: Adhere “Believe” acrylic Clear Bulb and dyed ribbon.

Step 6: Add beaded pins.

Step 7: Using gesso and a paint brush, highlight the flowers, leaves and dyed ribbon. Tap on gesso to enhance the overall design.

Step 8: Continue embellishing as desired.

I really enjoyed creating this Believe Mixed Media Tag and I hope that it inspired you. It’s amazing how fun elements like chipboard pieces and stencils add so much fun and creative inspiration to art.
