Canada Traveler Journal Pages with Karen Bearse

Karen Bearse here today with the first bit of my Canada Travel Journal Pages. I worked on the inside covers & the cover of the first booklet. The great thing about this book is the booklets are removable.

Sadly I do not know if these papers are still available. I can’t find my recently purchased travel papers for the moment but did find these in my stash from years ago. Sorry about that but you can use whatever papers you have to create the same sort of look.

My chippies were coloured with Distress Oxides & covered with clear emboss.

The maple leaf in the center was painted white & stenciled using Mixed Media Medium. When it was dry and the gel was clear foil was rubbed on using my finger.

To see the original post on how to make this book you can go here. Thanks for joining me for my little update! See you soon.

Merry Christmas Ornaments Canvas with Deb Riddell

Hello and thanks for stopping by, Deb Riddell here with you today to share a Christmas In July mixed media canvas that I created with some of Southern Ridge’s new Christmas releases.

I used the new Swirls Ornament Set along with the Merry Christmas Greeting Pack chipboard to create my Merry Christmas Ornaments canvas, read on for the how to.

The Swirls Ornament Set includes three ornaments that each have two layers, a solid backing and a decorative overlay.  I covered the solid backing ornaments with three different papers from Tim Holtz’s Yuletide and Tidings Paper Stash’s, trimming the edges with a finger knife and then filing any stray bits with an emery board.  The hanger holes were punched out with a single hole punch.

The first Swirl overlay was embossed with Soft Fallen Snow embossing powder from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies and then adhered overtop of the green polka dot paper covered ornament.

The second Swirl overlay was covered with Distress Vintage Platinum Glitter Dust and adhered overtop of the Christmas text covered ornament.

And the third Swirl ornament was foiled with Therm O Web’s Opal Deco Foil and adhered overtop of the red star patterned ornament.

One of the Merry Christmas sentiments from the Merry Christmas Greeting Pack was then foiled with more Therm O Web foil, this time I used some Old Gold Mixed Media Transfer Foil from their Rebekah Meier Designs line.  I used the Deco Foil Adhesive pen directly onto the bare chipboard and love the distressed effect that was enhanced with some Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.

To carry on the gold theme, Tim Holtz’s Bird Branch die was cut from some gold Metallic Kraft Stock, sanded slightly to reveal some of the kraft paper below the gold and inked with Frayed Burlap Distress ink (I cut off the little bird and will save him for a future project!).

A 6” x 8” flat artist’s canvas was painted with white gesso and then inked with Tumbled Glass Distress Stain.  Some of the stain was randomly removed with a damp baby wipe for a mottled cloudy effect.

A little subtle tone on tone stenciling followed with Tumbled Glass Distress ink through Tim Holtz’s Holiday Script layering stencil.

And finally, more stenciling was added through Tim Holtz’s Snowflake layering stencil with Ranger Transparent Gloss texture paste and once it had dried a splattering of white acrylic paint and edging with Stormy Sky Distress ink completed the background.

And then the canvas was assembled, button thread was tied onto each of the ornaments and they were adhered onto the prepared canvas.

The Merry Christmas sentiment was adhered below the ornaments,

And a snowflake charm was embossed with more Soft Fallen Snow embossing powder and adhered to the left side of the canvas.  A couple of sentiments from Tim Holtz’s Occasions Small Talk Stickers were also added after inking them with some Old Paper and Frayed Burlap Distress Inks.

Finally, the Bird Branch die cut was applied along the top of the canvas and the ornament hangers tied around it.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing how my Merry Christmas Ornaments canvas came together, I love this new Swirls Ornament set, such a versatile design!

You could easily turn this canvas into a Christmas card or scrapbook layout and if you covered the ornaments with patterned paper front and back they’d make lovely decorations for your tree.

For You, Happy Birthday Card with Katelyn Grosart

Hey there Southern Ridge Trading Company fans, Katelyn here. Today, I've created another  beautiful sea inspired Happy Birthday card for you, that's perfect to give to that special someone in your life for their birthday. You'll want to read below as I share with you how I created and transformed each of my chipboard pieces to create my For You,  Happy Birthday Card.

To start, cut out two of the Coral pieces. With the two coral pieces in front of you, apply Emboss It Ink to the coral pieces. Sprinkle Violet Satin Pearl Embossing Powder on each coral piece. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Let the coral pieces cool. Once the pieces have cooled, apply a layer of Emboss It Ink to the just embossed coral pieces. Sprinkle White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder on each coral piece. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Set the coral pieces aside.

Take one Coral piece in wood out of the package. Apply a layer of Emboss It Ink to the wood coral pieces. Sprinkle White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder on the wood coral piece. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with your heat tool. Set the wood coral piece aside.

Take two Mini Wood Starfish out of the package. Apply two coats of Broken China Distress Stain to the starfish. Set the starfish pieces aside to dry.

Take four Mini Anchors out of the package. Start by applying two coats of Brushed Pewter Distress Paint to all four anchors. Once the paint has dried, apply Black Soot Distress Crayon to portions of all four anchors. Rub the crayon in with your finger. Set the anchors aside.

Next, you'll need two seahorses. Apply two coats of Weathered Wood Distress Stain to each seahorse. Set the seahorses aside to dry.

From the Mini Ocean Set, cut out three of the dolphins. With the three dolphins in front of you, apply two coats of Broken China Distress Paint to each dolphin. Set the dolphins aside to dry.

Pull out two flip flops from the Mini Wood Flip Flops. For the bottom portion of the flip flop, apply two coats of Chipped Sapphire Distress Stain. On the second layer of the Chipped Sapphire Distress Stain, while the layer is still wet, apply a coat of Broken China Distress Stain overtop of the Chipped Sapphire layer. Set the bottom portion of the flip flop aside. For the top portion of the flip flop, apply two coats of Vintage Photo Distress Stain. Let the top portion of the flip flop dry.

After the flip flop pieces have dried, adhere the top portion of the flip flop to the bottom portion of the flip flop. Repeat the previous step again for the other flip flop.

Take one Mini Wood Sand Dollar out of the package.

Take two Mini Wood Clam Shells out of the package.

The last piece of chipboard you need is the Elegant Vintage Flourish Frame. Blend Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink overtop of the entire frame. Spritz the frame with water. Set the frame aside to dry.

Now it's time to cut the paper.

To start, die cut the mermaid image out of the 2 1/2" stitched oval. Distress the edges of the stitched oval. Ink the edges of the stitched oval using a blending tool with foam and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

Using the 3" Stitched Oval, die cut an oval out of blue patterned paper. Distress the edges of the stitched oval. Ink the edges of the stitched oval using a blending tool with foam and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

Choose your sentiment from the patterned paper and cut it into two strips.  Ink the edges of the sentiment using a blending tool with foam and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

From the blue scalloped paper, cut a piece that measures 4 1/2" x 6 1/2". Distress the edges of the stitched oval. Ink the edges of the stitched oval using a blending tool with foam and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

Cut a piece of blue map patterned paper that measures 4 3/4" x 6 3/4". Distress the edges of the stitched oval. Ink the edges of the stitched oval using a blending tool with foam and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

From the brown coral paper, cut a piece that measures 4 7/8" x 6 7/8". Distress the edges of the stitched oval. Ink the edges of the stitched oval using a blending tool with foam and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

Cut a cardbase from Super Stock cardstock that measures 7" x 10". Score the cardbase at 5" and fold the cardbase in half.

Adhere the 4 1/2" patterned paper piece to the 4 3/4" patterned paper piece. Adhere the 4 3/4" patterned paper piece to the 4 7/8" patterned paper piece.

Foam square the mermaid image to the 3" stitched oval.

Adhere the 3" stitched oval to the middle of the card front. Adhere the Elegant Vintage Flourish Frame overtop of the 3" stitched oval.

In the bottom right hand corner of the frame, adhere two anchors, a chipboard coral piece, the wood coral piece, two dolphins, a flip flop, seahorse and clamshell as desired.

In the top left hand corner of the frame, adhere the other chipboard coral piece, two anchors, two starfish, a seahorse, a clamshell, one dolphin and a sand dollar.

Adhere the sentiment strips to the bottom portion of the mermaid image.

Adhere the card front to the cardbase.

Get Muddy Buddy Scrapbook Layout with Charlene Byrd

Hello Bloggers!

Charlene here! Thank for joining me today! How ironic is this layout, here at home we are in the midst of a rainfall warning! Could be up to 100mm's of rain! This is creating the perfect conditions for mudding!

My boys loved riding their 4 wheelers when they were young and especially when it was muddy! If only their mother enjoyed cleaning up the mud lol! Boys will be boys!

To start the the chain frame I stained the chipboard with Walnut Distress Stain.

Then I randomly dabbed metallic Distress Paint onto the chipboard until I created the desired look. Super easy!

I simply used Walnut Stain on the title, twig and round tag. To make the 'Got Mud' stand out a bit more I used a fine tip brown sharpie marker and traced over the letters.
