Nautical Tag

Happy Sunday! Hope your Sunday is filled with some crafty time!  With the weather being so beautiful on the West Coast I decided to create a nautical themed tag. I can't wait to show you so here is my tag:

Supplies Used: SRTC - PAT-274, NAT-320, & NAT-331, KaiserCraft - Sandy Toes, Distress Ink - Vintage Photo, and
May Arts - Seam Binding Ribbon & Twine

On NAT-320, I used Anitque Linen Distress Paint on the large starfish and then embossed it with Clear Uttee, I also did this for NAT-320, instead I used Broken China Distress Paint on the two smaller starfish. On the Seahorse which is NAT-331, I used Peacock Feathers Distress Inks and then embossed with Clear Uttee. On all pieces I made sure I didn't cover the whole piece with embossing powder so that I created a water pattern on each of the chipboard pieces. PAT-274 was covered using Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Supplies: Distress Paint - Antique Linen & Broken China, Distress Ink - Vintage Photo & Peacock Feathers, and Clear Uttee.

The saying I used on the tag was from Sheena Douglas and I stamped it using Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

That's my tag for today. I hope that you have a wonderful Sunday filled with something crafty. Make sure that you stop by our blog to see what our other design team members have created. Make sure you check back on April.1st as we have a fun new thing starting. Thanks for stopping by!

Until Next Time

The Need for Speed

I've got another canvas for you today.
OMGosh, these things are too much fun.

I created this one for my son's upcoming Birthday.

I've used VEH-533
from the newest releases.

There is so much detail in this piece. My mind went wild.
So, what I've done is take my versamark pen. (I love this pen and it's so inexpensive.)
Going over the particular areas one section at a time, then using silver glitter,
Red Glitter, Black and a little white Zing embossing powder.

I needed to go over each area twice for a nice coverage. (my powder is Old)

On the silver portions, I went over some several times to create dimension and show division.
I added some flat silver circles at the wheel spoke and two other areas to really set that off.

I also used my microliner to add a thin line in some area.
(This was risky as the next step can cause it to bleed. Thankfully, it worked out).

Finally, I covered it all once again in a versamark pad; covering with UTEE to set it all off and add some amazing shine.

The letters I created from a sizzix die, using the same colors and process.
The background is done by using my copic airbrush.
I've created a stencil using my zing cutter, using various blue tones and
moving the stencil around, I get the flame.

I hope you enjoyed my project today.
I'll see you soon.
Hugs xxx
Dorinda

Easter Greetings

Easter is right around the corner already!! Spring sprung in Kamloops about a month ago, but the rest of the world is starting to catch up! However, I just left the still snowy & wintery Maritimes, and was so glad to see grass & warm temps again!

For my project this go round, I used quite a few of Karen's new releases for Easter. The title for my scrapbook page, "Happy Easter" is found here CEL-525. I had the best time "decorating" my Easter eggs CEL-540 for the bottom of the page.

For the title, I used the same technique that I used last month for the frame on the Valentine card. I sprayed the Happy Easter title with a spray adhesive, then dumped purple glitter all over it. Tapped off the excess then used a matt finishing spray to seal the glitter in.

For the eggs, I used the white distress paint to cover the chipboard. Then I used different colours of papers to add colour in the cut out sections. So much fun, and so little mess in comparison to real egg decorating.

Once I had my colours on the backside of the chipboard pieces, I started to decorate my eggs, with bling, sequins, flower jewels. The sky is the limit with decorating these!!

Once the eggs were decorated, I started to decorate the bottom of my layout. I began by layering flowers & purple tulle behind the eggs. I fussy cut out the bunnies from the background paper and tucked the chipboard eggs behind the fussy cut parts and then built up from there. Once I had everything where I wanted it and adhered down, I pulled out the purple spritz & gave it a couple of sprays to make it look antiqued.

I hope you enjoyed looking at my project. It took a couple of days to put it all together, but I think it was worth it! Happy Easter to you all! :)

Heart aflutter

My new addiction is altered playing cards, and I am in a group where we are slowly working our way through the whole pack of 52, its so much fun.

My Altered Playing Card features a smaller piece than is available in the store, its the outer heart from HRT-479. Did you know all those hearts separate ? Well they do :)
You make my heart flutter ... I loved that sentiment coupled with the imagery. I added butterflies in co-ordinating colors to give an ombre effect :

What I really like about working with chipboard is the stability and depth of a piece. Here I had stamped and colored my butterfly image, the heart was painted and sanded. Then when it was all glued down I was able to add a thick layer of diamond glaze. It feels so scrumptious.
Close up :
I hope you found some inspiration here :)

Penny Farthing Layout

Happy Tuesday and Happy St.Patricks Day! Thanks for joining me on the blog today. I don't have something St.Patricks Day related but I do have a layout using 2 of our new pieces out of the March/April Releases. I won't make you wait any longer, here is the layout:

Supplies Used: HHP-558 & VIN-531, Prima - Archivist, May Arts - Seam Binding & Twine.

For VIN-531, I added a light layer of Vintage Photo Distress Ink. The spokes on the inside of the bicycle are so fragile I was afraid to emboss it or crackle paint it. This Penny Farthing Bike is awesome!!

Supplies Used: VIN-531, Ranger - Vintage Photo Distress Ink

For HHP-558, I went heavier with the Vintage Photo Distress Ink giving the hinges a darker look. I didn't want to draw a ton of attention to them as they are there acting to hold the photo into place.

Supplies Used: HHP-558, Ranger - Vintage Photo Distress Ink

Here is my layout with all of the elements together:

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure to stop by our Facebook Page and post your work, we would love to see it.

Until Next Time!

Easter Bunnies

I'm gonna admit it.
I rarely do a piece that just blows me away and makes me smile.
You know, that deep down inside, "I can't believe that "I" did this" smile

But sometimes things happen and you just know it was meant to be.

Today, I'd like to share with you my project and maybe show you a new tip.
using the adorable Bunnies From Southern Ridge Trading Company

I started out wanting to do the "crackle" effect.
So many girls do it and I just love it.
I painted the left bunny with acrylic flesh tone and the right one in a brown color.
Once dried, I painted over the color with Folk Art crackle paint.
Again, waiting until dried, I then painted the left bunny in white and the right in antique white.
I proceeded to use acrylic green and some watercolors to the Cattail leaves.

Well, I loved the crackle so much, that's when my ideas kicked in.
I had to find a little cross to "antique" up.
Off to the store I go.
Draping it in the Lenten purple sash, I wanted it to be a background portion of my piece.
Then, I realized, I had to put this on a canvas.
Yep, you guesses it...store...thankfully it's on the way to anywhere I go.
Using my copic airbrush, I used a paper towel tutorial to create the sky;
sprayed a bit of green on the ground and a few flicks from my G28.

I'm not done yet...I am gonna show you a trick.
This is a step by step of how I achieved my cattails.

I've used a homemade flock. It's super easy and adds great dimension

Using a solid core dye cardstock like coredinations or bazzil;
take a small piece, fold it up several times to make it thick.

Grab your Cheese slicer. .

Using the grater side, carefully grate up some flock

It's going to look like powder almost.
Since my card stock has a lighter core, it will give multi tones.

Use a nice sticky glue, bunch it on the area and let dry

After dry, you're going to gently take the excess off.
You can continue this process for a thicker version or to hit spots you may have missed

this last step is optional.
I like to add dimension with shadows so using a Dark brown, I lay my brush horizontally on the cattail and just dabbed.

Using a variety of color, I dotted the remaining portion to give it a bit more of a color pop

I hope you've enjoyed my piece of Easter.
Have a beautiful Hoppy Day!

Door Tag

Happy Wednesday! We hope you have been enjoying all the great new chipboard and wood pieces for our March/April release used by our amazingly talented group of designers.

This time I used HHP-537, which is one of my new favourite pieces as you can do so much with it. Read below to find out how I created my door tag.

Full view of tag:

Supplies used: HHP-537 & flowers from SRTC, Graphic 45 - Artisan Style, Staples, and May Arts Seam Binding Ribbon.

To create the "rain" on HHP-537, I used Black Ultra Thick Embossing Powder. The Ultra Thick Embossing Powder only stuck in certain spots so I went back over with Black Soot Distress Ink, to finish the door off. Ultra Thick Embossing Powder is great because you can control how much you emboss a piece.

Supplies Used: HHP-537 & Flowers from SRTC,  Black Ultra Thick Embossing Powder, and Graphic 45 - Artisan Style paper.

Here is the tag with all of the elements together.

Thanks for stopping by and as always make sure that you keep on stopping by to check out all of our other amazingly talented designers.

Until Next Time

Dream Catcher Card

Oh my! Karen's new releases this month had me chomping at the bit to do my Design Team challenges!! As soon as I saw the wooden feathers WOOD-565 I knew exactly what I wanted to do! A Dream Catcher card!

Other than adding a little bit of brown ink to the edges, I didn't have to do a THING to the feathers - easy & gorgeous in one simple step! I added some black beads & cording to make it look like the feathers were hanging from the dream catcher cut out.

I popped up the actual dream catcher cut out, applied a black gem to the centre, stamped my sentiment & added some bling with a butterfly, and voila! C'est fini!! :)

I couldn't be more excited about how this turned out! Thanks for looking! Cheers! :)

Bee ATC's

I have been creating Artist Trading Cards again, they are small, 2.5" x 3.5". I have used the gorgeous chipboard honey comb, MIS-274. I have used this before, but its just something I keep coming back to and working on this smaller scale was really fun. Its so easy to cut the chipboard, so one size fits all :)
My three ATC's, all slightly different :
There are a number of elements on my ATC's, including honey in the comb, this is made with gold acrylic paint and crystal effects. The gorgeous bee image is from SCACD, a steam punk bee called Bee Ware - isn't it great. A close up of my favourite ATC of the three, you can clearly see the embossing, the cogs, honey, chipboard and flowers - also for sale by SRTC at events.

A Daughter Tag Set

It's crazy to believe that we are already into March which means that at Southern Ridge Trading Company we have a brand new set of releases!! Karen has designed beautiful new pieces, which means you are in for a treat for the next couple of months as the rest of the design team members will be using all of the beautiful March & April releases. To check out all of the New Releases check it out under the New Release section at Southern Ridge Trading Company.

So here is my first tag in the set using VIN-549 :

Supplies used: Graphic 45 Staples, May Arts Ribbon, VIN-549, Flowers from SRTC, Gold Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel, and Pion - My Daughter Paper.

Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel is my favourite to use when I'am trying to make a piece look old and you have control of how embossed your piece ends up. When I use Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel I like to keep some of the bubbles still on the piece. Some parts of VIN-549 was missing some embossing enamel so I added some Vintage Photo Distress Ink into the non-embossed parts.
Supplies Used: VIN-549, Flowers from SRTC, and Gold Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel.

Here is the tag completed:

Here is the second tag in the set using VIN-550:
Supplies used: Pion - My Daughter, VIN-550, Distress Crackle Paint in Vintage Photo, and May Arts Ribbon.

I love all the detail on VIN-550 so I added Vintage Photo Distress Crackle Paint to give the frame a crackled finish.

Supplies used: Distress Crackle Paint in Vintage Photo, VIN-550, and Pion - My Daughter.

Here is an up close photo of the crackle finish on VIN-550:
Supplies used: VIN-550, and Distress Crackle Paint in Vintage Photo.

Have a great Monday Morning! Come back this week for more inspiration from other design team members and to see how we are using the beautiful new March & April releases.

Thanks for Stopping by!
