Oh Christmas Tree Double Sided Decoration with Deb Riddell

Hello everyone, Deb Riddell here to share a mixed media Christmas decoration with you that I created with some of Southern Ridge’s wonderful new Christmas chipboard designs!

I made my Oh Christmas Tree double sided decoration with the Small Wood Stand Up Canvas as my base and then added the brand new Peace On Earth Tree on one side and the beautiful Flourish Christmas Tree on the other.  I’ve some step by step photos on how I created it, read on for the how to.

I started out by base painting the chipboard trees with DecoArt Americana acrylic paint, using Desert Sand on the Peace On Earth Tree and Antique Gold on the Flourish Christmas Tree.

After the paint had dried, I covered each tree thoroughly with Therm O Web’s Deco Foil Adhesive pen and let it try till clear and tacky.

Rebekah Meier Designs Mixed Media Transfer Foil in Antique Pearl was then applied to the Peace On Earth Tree;

And Old Gold Transfer Foil was applied to the Flourish Christmas Tree.

Both trees were then gently sanded with 400 grit sandpaper and DecoArt Media Antiquing Cream in Raw Umber was painted overtop.  After the Antiquing Cream had dried it was burnished off of the Transfer Foil to give both trees a worn, aged appearance.

The stand up portion of the Small Wood Stand Up Canvas was covered front and back with red patterned Christmas scrapbooking paper and the base of the canvas was inked with Aged Mahogany Distress ink.  The Peace On Earth Tree was added to one side;

And the Flourish Christmas Tree was added to the other side of the Stand Up Canvas.

A piece of Therm O Web Peel N Stick Toner Sheet was covered with Champagne Deco Foil and then die cut with Tim Holtz’s Holiday Words 2: Thin dies to spell out the words ‘joy to the world’

Three Dimensional Stars were die cut from cardstock covered with gold Deco Sheet and added to the top of the Peace On Earth Tree side of the decoration with Zots glue dots.

The ‘joy to the world’ die cut letters were added to the Flourish Christmas Tree side of the decoration and the edges of the stand up portion of the wood canvas were covered with some Tim Holtz Yuletide Design Tape.

The stand up portion of the wood canvas was inserted into the inked base and embossing powder ‘snow’ was added around the bottom.  I used Ultra Puff embossing powder first and then covered it with Soft Fallen Snow embossing powder from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies.

A small Decorative Deer and some Baubles Findings were coloured with alcohol inks, Latte for the wee deer and Lettuce and Red Pepper for the baubles.  I ended up colouring a couple more baubles with some Gold Mixative as you’ll see below.

Here’s the Peace On Earth side of the decoration.

I coloured a Mini Woodland Tree with Shabby Shutters Distress Spray Stain, added some white acrylic paint to it here and there and then sprinkled on some Iridescent Shimmer embossing powder.  The base of the tree was covered with some red glitter Tidings Design Tape and the edge of the wood canvas base was covered with green glitter Tidings Design Tape.

I made a collar for the little deer with a strip of green glitter Tidings Design Tape that I twisted together and I then cut the prongs off of a Jingle Brad, threaded the tape through it and tied it around the deer’s neck.

Here is the Flourish Christmas Tree side of the decoration.

I coloured a silver jingle bell with Gold Mixative and tied a wee scrap of green satin ribbon to it.  More white acrylic paint with Iridescent Shimmer embossing powder sprinkled on top was added to the bell.

The alcohol ink Baubles Findings were stacked up on the other side and the acrylic paint and embossing powder accents repeated once again.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing my Oh Christmas Tree double sided decoration, I love how it turned out!  It will be a Christmas present for a very special someone, can’t tell you who in case they see my post ;O)

  1. Fantastic golden shimmer on both trees - and they look so great against the opulent red backgrounds.
